Children and young people are spending more and more time in online environments, with smart phones, laptops and hand-held devices that allow them to communicate in different ways.<\/p>\n

The internet can be extremely useful but it is also essential that young people have an understanding of how to make safe use of the online environment.\u00a0 Making sure our children understand online dangers is just as important as teaching them to cross the road safely.<\/p>\n

In school, the children are provided with regular opportunities to learn how to keep themselves safe online.\u00a0 We encourage the children to think about the internet as a physical place like a park, activity centre, library or shop – as another ‘place’ where people go to find out information, socialise and communicate with others.<\/p>\n

When teaching the children about online safety, we find the resources and information available from the ‘UK Safer Internet Centre’ and ‘Think U Know’ to be particularly helpful.<\/p>\n

Each of these organisations also provide extremely helpful information for parents and carers.\u00a0 Their websites have been designed to inform you of the dangers and provide practical solutions to reduce the risk for children and young people.\u00a0 Please click on the icons below to access these websites.<\/p>\n
