We’re excited to begin a new term filled with fresh learning experiences, new topics, and plenty of opportunities for pupils to grow in confidence and independence. Below is an overview of what we’ll be focusing on during the term ahead.

Mathematics
This term, our main focus in numeracy will be on number. Pupils will continue to develop rapid recall of times tables, which supports learning across many areas of maths. We will also build on our use of number talks, encouraging pupils to explore and explain a range of strategies to solve addition and subtraction calculations efficiently. In addition, learners will explore time, data handling, and measurement, strengthening their ability to apply maths skills in real-life contexts.

Literacy
In literacy, we are continuing to build oral reading fluency alongside developing strong reading comprehension skills. As part of Talk for Writing, pupils have begun their final unit on descriptive writing. This has been met with great enthusiasm, with learners enjoying creating their own imaginative stories and detailed settings while extending their vocabulary and sentence structure.

Spelling
There will be a strong focus on consolidating common and tricky words. Improving spelling accuracy will support pupils’ confidence and quality of writing across all curriculum areas.

Topic – Current World Affairs
Our topic this term is Current World Affairs. So far, pupils have explored the Artemis II space mission, developing curiosity about science and global developments. We will soon move on to learning about the World Cup—an exciting topic, especially as our own team has qualified, which is sure to spark enthusiasm and discussion.

Physical Education & Health and Wellbeing
In PE, pupils are focusing on gymnastics and fitness circuits, building strength, coordination, and stamina in preparation for Sports Day.

Within Health and Wellbeing, we have been learning about substance misuse, including how to stay safe around medicines and household products, and understanding the risks associated with smoking, vaping, alcohol, and caffeine. Moving forward, we will explore discrimination, emotional awareness, and self-regulation. Pupils will develop coping strategies for managing big emotions and build resilience as they begin preparing for their transition into P6.

We are looking forward to a busy and positive Term 4 filled with learning, growth, and new opportunities.

Term 4 Update – Primary 5 Welcome to the start of Term 4!
