Please click the ‘Welcome Back Info’ link below to find out detailed arrangements for your child’s return to school.
Returning to School
Following the First Minister’s announcement yesterday we are delighted that we will be welcoming all our pupils back to school full time. Wednesday 12th- Friday 14th August will be a soft start week with children returning for one session that week and then all pupils returning fully on Monday 17th August. This phased return will allow pupils to settle in to new routines. The day your child will attend during the soft start week was sent to you at the end of term but is also in my End of Term update letter below.
Early Years Centre– Letters have been posted out today (31.7.20) to detail when your child will attend during the soft start week and also to inform you that all children will resume their agreed attendance pattern from Monday 17th August.
We have missed all our pupils and look forward to welcoming them all back soon. Please enjoy the rest of the summer holidays.
End of Term
It is a very strange end to the school year. Please see my letter below for more information. I just want to thank all pupils, parents and staff for their hard work during this challenging time. Have a lovely holiday everyone.
Early Years Centre Update 26.6.20
Letters regarding your child’s attendance pattern will follow during the school holiday period.
24.6.20- Hello to our new P1 pupils
It was a pleasure to meet all our new Primary 1 pupils yesterday. They already look so grown up. We realise their time was cut short in Nursery. The Early Years Team are working on a exciting but safe way to say goodbye as we appreciate it is almost impossible for little ones to socially distance at this time. We therefore plan to celebrate their first day of Primary 1 in a very special way!
24.6.20 P7 Goodbye
What an emotional day it was as we said farewell to our amazing Primary 7 pupils. It is so sad that their final year was cut short. They have been an absolute credit to Cairn Primary and will missed by all the staff and pupils. A couple of pictures of a special day. Look out for more to follow.
24.6.20 Return to School Information Parent-Carer Update Letter 24.6.20
Please find above a letter from the Head of Education regarding our return to school. We will be working hard on our new plans for returning in August and will be in touch as soon as we have any more information regarding the school and Early Years Centre. This letter will also be sent to you through group call.
18.6.20 – Early Years Centre information is still to be confirmed. Details will follow in due course.
18.6.20 Important Update!
You should have received through Groupcall a newsletter detailing our plans for returning in August. This has your child’s class and other relevant information on it. If you have not received your letter by the end of today please phone the school on 01655 885802. There is a generic copy of the letter below.
10.6.20 Update Parent-Carer Update Letter
You should receive through our Groupcall system a letter from the Director of Education regarding the current position with returning to school (If you haven’t received it please click the link above). The staff are working hard to do everything we can for a safe and happy return to Cairn Primary for all our pupils. We had hoped to be able to share class teachers with you this week, but unfortunately we have had to make several changes to our plans. I will have to wait for approval on these plans from the Authority and I will then be in a better position to share information with you. Please try not to worry as we will do everything in our power to make it the best possible experience for our pupils and families. We will continue to encourage pupils to engage with our June activities till the end of term and teachers are still available to support with home learning, it might just take a little longer to respond as they are in and out of school setting up. I have especially enjoyed watching all the fantastic videos of our pupils taking part in the Sports Challenges. Keep up the good work TEAM CAIRN!
Miss S Flint
Just to let you know that we have been making preparations for a safe return to school in August. Teachers are currently organising transition information about every child ready to be passed to their new teacher. We plan to inform you on your child’s class teacher next week and will then be in touch regarding transition for our new Primary 1 pupils and arrangements for our Primary 7s. who are moving on to Secondary. In the meantime, please encourage as many of our children as possible to have fun and take part in our Cluster Sports Week “The Carrick Games”… Go TEAM CAIRN!
The teachers are really missing their pupils. Over the next couple of weeks they will be phoning round the children in their class to say “hello!”
We completely appreciate how stressful home schooling can be, as many of us who normally find teaching a class a joy, are finding trying to teach our own children at home far more challenging! We know it is hard to keep children engaged and there are many difficulties that online learning brings. Please only do what you can and let us know if we can help. The health and well-being of our families is priority.
Following our “Teacher’s on Tour” visits we are putting together a video of all our pupils. If we were unable to take a photo at the time and you would like to be a part of the video please email your photo to email@example.com.
As always we are picking up the school phone line 01655 885 802 if you need anything.
“Teachers on Tour!”
Miss Flint and Mrs Kay had an amazing trip round Maybole yesterday and were delighted to see so many of you. We will be back again in Maybole on Tuesday 28th April and Wednesday 29th April. We will be making our way round as many of the streets as possible. We will leave from the school grounds around 10:45am for a few hours each of these days. We will follow Ryan’s delivery routes. You won’t miss us in our bright clothes! More details of our routes will follow.
We are missing you all. If you see us, we would love it if you could give us a wave from the window or garden to let us know you are all ok. We will take a photo of you if you are happy to pose for us. Feel free to wave flags, posters and teddies etc. We got lots of photos yesterday and will hopefully get more next week then we will share them with you all. If we miss you this time we will be back round again.
Hope you are all well and have managed to enjoy some of the nice weather this Easter. It has been lovely to chat to many of you over the holidays. I have updated below some information on the free school meals.
Teachers will be back online on Monday 20th April posting work and activities for all the children. Please encourage your child/children to check the website and to log back into Microsoft Teams. If you have any problems getting online please do not hesitate to contact the school on Monday on 01655 885 802 and we will do all we can to help.

***Children Entitled to a Free School Meal – Update 16.4.20
If you contacted the school during the Easter holidays regarding free school meal boxes, I have forwarded your details to the South Ayrshire Team who are organising delivery for you. Due to the increase in demand and the holiday period it may mean your first box may not arrive until week beginning 20th April. It will then be a weekly delivery to your home . ( If you are struggling in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact the 10:10 trust on 0333 344 4156 on you can find them on Facebook).
It is now the Easter holidays. Your teachers will not be posting any more work online for two weeks. There is however an Easter sheet on the school website with lots of fun activities you can do with your family if you are feeling a bit bored.
I just want to thank everyone for their patience as we have all tried to adapt to online learning. A huge thank you to all the teachers as they have learned lots of new ICT skills as many of you and your parents will have too.
