This year is a little different at Barr Primary, as we now have a new P1\u20137 class setup<\/strong>. With this change, we\u2019ve decided to do things differently too\u2014creating the best possible learning environment for all our pupils.<\/p>\n We now have two learning spaces:<\/p>\n A Calm Classroom<\/strong>, where we focus on teaching input and quiet, focused learning.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n A Creative Classroom<\/strong>, where pupils enjoy play-based and active experiences.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n In our play areas just now, we have:<\/p>\n Construction<\/strong>: wooden blocks, magnetic Polydron, and Lego. The wooden blocks have been a big favourite\u2014P1 even built a rainforest shelter for a toucan!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Arts & Crafts<\/strong>: a creative hub for making and designing.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Literacy & Numeracy Station<\/strong>: where pupils are enjoying Orchard Games as a fun way to practise key skills.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Role Play Corner<\/strong>: currently set up as a home corner\u2014always busy, with the toy babies proving especially popular!<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n Across the school, we are developing descriptive writing skills using our Description Toolkit<\/strong> to explore how to set a scene effectively.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n P1 are focusing on their initial sounds<\/strong> and learning to write their names.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n We are developing our phonics skills with Read Write Inc Phonics & Spelling<\/strong>, and working with South Ayrshire Reads<\/strong> to strengthen these further.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n We have started with number and place value<\/strong>, before moving on to patterns.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n P1 are using Number Zoo<\/strong>, which helps with number recognition and formation through fun characters and stories.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n We are exploring emotions through the Regulation Backpack Recognise their emotions.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Choose the support they need to manage feelings.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Develop key self-regulation skills.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n We\u2019ve had an exciting visitor in school\u2014Zorg the Alien<\/strong>, who crash-landed in Barr after a trip to the rainforest! In exchange for us helping him get back to space, Zorg is teaching us about the rainforest. He\u2019s also been exploring our village with families, going on adventures like farming sheep, completing a triathlon, and playing in the local park!<\/p>\n\n
