Captain Wallace started to build Kildonan House before the First World War, however, it was not completed until after the war because the slates for the roof came from the Orkney Islands.<\/p>\n<div built of Northumberland Sandstone which was brought here by train. It was then transported from the railway station by horse and cart. The house was built by many local tradesmen and the squash court is the first one built in Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>The nuns of the Order of Saint Joseph of Cluny had Kildonan from 1946 until 1978 as a boarding school.
