In encouraging the wearing of uniform, account must be taken in any proposals to prevent any direct or indirect <br \/>discrimination on the grounds of race or gender. Any proposals will be the subject of <br \/>widespread consultation with parents and pupils. Against this background it should be noted that it is the policy of South Ayrshire Council not to insist on pupils wearing uniform or having specialist items of clothing as a prerequisite to their attending and engaging in all of the activities of the curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>There are forms of dress which are unacceptable in school such as items of clothing which:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Potentially, encourage friction(such as football colours);<\/li>\n<li>Could cause offence (such as anti-religious symbolism or political slogans);<\/li>\n<li>Could cause health and safety difficulties, such as loose fitting clothing, dangling <br \/>earrings and facial piercings, are made from flammable material, in practical classes;<\/li>\n<li>Could cause damage to flooring;<\/li>\n<li>Carry advertising, particularly for alcohol or tobacco;<\/li>\n<li>Could be used to inflict damage on other pupils or be used by others to do so;<\/li>\n<li>No hooded tops should be worn in class; these are classed as outside clothing and <br \/>should be removed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please see attached the current dress code policy &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sa\/public\/ayracademy\/uploads\/sites\/11820\/2025\/11\/24121210\/Dress-code.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dress code<\/a><\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"builder-text-row\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-column builder-text-column-2\" id=\"builder-section-text_11-column-1\">\n<div class=\"builder-text-content\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/section>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Given that there is a substantial parental and public approval of uniform, schools in South Ayrshire are free to encourage the wearing of school uniform.
