Within Williamsburgh ELCC we believe children learn best when they have the freedom to explore and engage in their own learning therefore we promote child-led learning.
\nChild led learning is described as,<\/p>\n

Children being given the autonomy to express their opinions and make decisions about how and where they want to learn.
\n– Care Inspectorate (2016).<\/p>\n

So, the children within our establishment are able to roam the nursery environment freely, choose where they want to explore and they decide how they want to engage with a space and resources \u2013 this is to encourage playfulness in the children.<\/p>\n

Playfulness is innate in children thus allowing them the time, space and choice to engage in play increases children\u2019s willingness to engage in learning \u2013 we strive to make learning fun and meaningful to the children and their needs. Playful child led learning also allows children to develop their agency as well as build their own theories about the world that surrounds them (Education Scotland, 2020).<\/p>\n

Now, we recognise that playfulness does not happen by chance it requires skilled adult who will play and learn alongside the children nurturing their identity by making connections with the children and creating fun, interesting and engaging spaces and experiences to facilitate play (Education Scotland, 2020). Here at Williamsburgh we ensure our staff team take part in reflections and partake in regular training to ensure they are highly skilled and competent practitioners who can provide the best outcomes for your children.<\/p>\n
