Home learning and keeping in touch

Dear Parent/Carer

We hope you all managed to have a lovely Christmas at home together.

We understand that the year has begun under very challenging circumstances with the new lockdown restrictions in place to fight the spread of COVID-19, however we are hopeful that this will be short term.

We want to take this opportunity to reassure you that, although most of our children are at home with their families, we will continue to be here for you and will try to provide as much support as we can.

We wanted to share some of the ways we plan to keep in touch in the weeks ahead in order to ensure continuity in your child’s learning and to work together to support their progress:

  • Your child’s key worker or a member of the team will contact you once per week to check in and see how you are doing and if you need any support.
  • We will share the targets we have set for your child for this term across literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing.
  • We will upload a range of experiences to Seesaw that you can engage in with your child to hopefully give you some ideas of how you can have fun together and this will also support them in achieving their goals. If you do not yet have access to Seesaw please get in touch and we will resend your child’s link.
  • We will update our blog regularly with a range of activities, ideas and general information – https://blogs.glowscotland.org.uk/re/wpsnursery/.

We know that the situation at present is not ideal, however we also know that it won’t be forever and there is hope for the future.

Please stay in touch and we will get through this together.

Kind regards

Williamsburgh ELCC Team

Changes to our Infrastructure

As you may be aware we have been undergoing infrastructure building works within our Early Learning and Childcare Class and I wanted to provide an update on this.

The weekend of the 19th December the contractors will be working on removing the internal partition which will provide us with access to the new extended part of the building.

This will mean that rather than having two separate playrooms, we will now be operating within one larger playroom. The contractors will then begin internal works within the old ladybird playroom.

This will impact on how families enter and exit our building.

Drop off in the morning –

  • Between the hours of 8.00 a.m. and 9.15 a.m. there will be a member of management there to welcome you and your child.
  • We would ask that you continue to make use of queuing at both sides of the nursery gates at this time and adhere to 2 metre distancing. We would also remind all parents/carers that the use of face coverings is advised.
  • All children will enter via the door which was the entrance to the butterfly room and be escorted to their bubble by an adult.

Drop off and collection in the afternoon –

  • For children who are being dropped off or collected in the afternoon, can you please ring the bell to the butterfly room and a member of staff will bring your child to you. Again can we remind you to adhere to guidance in relation to social distancing and the use of face coverings.
  • We will renew external markers and signage outside the nursery grounds.

Care Inspectorate Guidance –

  • In accordance with guidance from Care Inspectorate we will now be operating within 3 bubbles within the nursery, all of which have free-flow access to an outdoor space.
  • Your child’s keyworker has not changed.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a big ‘THANK YOU’ from us all at Williamsburgh ELCC for your patience during this time.

We would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

LETTER FROM DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S SERVICES TO ALL PARENTS/CARERS – Fri 30 Oct 20

Dear parent/carer

As you will be aware, the Scottish Government has now confirmed details of the new protection level system to help stop the spread of coronavirus, and Renfrewshire has been placed in Level 3.

This brings with it some extra protection measures for our schools and nurseries. We have only this afternoon received the full guidance from the Scottish Government and are still working through the detail of it and will share this with you fully over the course of next week.

The main changes relate to the use of face coverings from Monday 2 November and I would like to ask for your support as we implement these measures.

From Monday pupils in the senior phase of secondary school (S4 to S6) should wear face coverings in all classes, this change will also apply to teaching staff. Pupils should bring their own face covering and be prepared to wear in class and when moving to and from classes. They will be asked by school staff to comply with this advice.

If for any reason they don’t have one, schools will continue to provide disposable ones.

Any pupils who cannot wear face coverings due to health issues or additional support needs are exempt and this will be supported by the school.

We would also ask that all parents or visitors entering school premises (building or playground), including drop-off or pick-up, to please wear a face covering.

As always, the safety of your children is the single biggest priority for us. We continue to follow all national guidance designed to keep our school community safe and we really appreciate your support and co-operation in helping to reduce the risk of covid-19 transmission within our schools.

I will write to you next week with more details on the enhanced Level 3 measures for Renfrewshire schools and please be reassured that any changes will be explained carefully to our pupils.

You can read more about what we already have in place to ensure our schools and nurseries are safe on our Schools Health and Safety webpage. And more on what to do if you have a suspected or confirmed case of Covid-19 in your household can be found on our Covid-19 Schools webpage.

Thank you again for your continued patience and understanding

Steven Quinn,

Director of Children’s Services, Renfrewshire Council

October Holiday

Hi Everyone, just a reminder:

Monday 12th to Friday 16th October is a holiday for all term time children.

Monday 19th October is an in service day and all children do not attend.

Tuesday 20th October – Williamsburgh ELC reopens to all children.

Reminder – What to do if your child has COVID-19 symptoms

If your child presents at Williamsburgh Elc or calls to report any of the 3 main symptoms which could be indicative of the COVID-19 virus:

  • new, and continuous cough;
  • high temperature;
  • and loss of taste / smell.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/symptoms/coronavirus-in-children/

We have been advised by our environmental health colleagues that we must strongly encourage you (parents or carers) to have your child tested.

Your child may only return to our service if your child receives a negative test result or after 10 calendar days of self isolation.

We must also advise that, as the household must self-isolate until a negative test result is confirmed, this will impact on siblings too and they cannot attend the school or centre either. This is also the advise if a member of the household becomes ill with COVID symptoms.

We appreciate that this is a difficult time for everyone and we remind you that we are here to support in anyway we can.

If you have any further questions or queries please do not hesitate to call.
