Book Week

Our children love to spend time within our cosy book areas and enjoy reading stories together.

This week in honour of Scottish Book Week we are enjoying ‘Squirrels who squabbled’ this is a tale of how two greedy squirrels greedy squirrels Cyril and Bruce, they both have their sights on a very special prize: THE VERY LAST NUT OF THE SEASON! As the nut bounces crazily though the forest, the squirrels race after it, between the trees, over boulders, down the river and – ARGH! – right to the edge of a waterfall! Working together might be the only way to save themselves now …

We are helping Boris and Cyril to share, this experience also helps children to develop mathematical concepts such as a sense of size, amount and even very early fractions!

Please share with us any stories you have been enjoying at home via the blog or on Seesaw 🙂

  1. We will need to have a wee look for the other books in the series. Jackson has great fun with you choose. It’s great for his imagination. Last night we read sleep tight. We are hoping sant will bring some nice new books for Jackson too. We will have to tell his elf Bobby about the other you choose ones.

  2. A bit late to this post. Jackson’s still enjoying ‘You choose’ at bedtime. It’s a book where you choose where you would most like to go, house you would have, what you would have in it, pets you would have, what you would wear. Which job you would like to do. Which hobbies you would like to try etc. We have read it so much recently that we have started to make up our own stories with it. For example we imagined going camping near a waterfall with gran and papa and their dog Sam, where we found a knights castle and had a pet dragon. He dressed his dad as a jester and went scuba diving like his Papi. It’s been great fun. We have also reading the ‘teddy bears secret’ and ‘oi puppies’

    1. Hello – never too late for your contribution! 🙂 WOW, that is a fantastic book! And it opens up so many possibilities and ideas! We are definitely going to look this one out for the nursery, thank you for letting us know! Did you know that there are different books in the ‘You choose’ series? There’s one about ‘your dreams’ or even ‘in space’! We’re going to have a wee look where we can source them from. We think Jackson would really like them! 🙂
