It helps with the costs of preparing for school when your child is first old enough to start primary school.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">You can get the payment for multiple children, as long as each child is the right age when you apply.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">To get a payment, your child does not have to take up a place at school. You&#8217;ll still need to apply in the year that your child is first old enough to start school, if:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: center\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">you&#8217;re deferring when your child starts school<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">your child is not going to school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">When you need to apply for the School Age Payment depends on when your child was born:<\/p>\n<table class=\"ds_table aligncenter\">\n<caption>When to apply for School Age Payment<\/caption>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th scope=\"col\">Your child&#8217;s date of birth<\/th>\n<th scope=\"col\">When you can apply<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td>Between 1 March 2021\u00a0and 28\u00a0February\u00a02022<\/td>\n<td>Between 1 June 2026\u00a0and 28\u00a0February\u00a02027<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>Between 1 March 2022\u00a0and 28\u00a0February\u00a02023<\/td>\n<td>Between 1 June 2027\u00a0and 29\u00a0February\u00a02028<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The application dates for children born between 1 March 2020\u00a0and 28\u00a0February 2021\u00a0have now passed. You cannot apply for a child outside of these application dates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">You can spend this money on anything you need for your child at this age. This could include:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: center\">\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">clothes<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">school trips<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">stationery for school<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"ds_inset-text\">\n<div class=\"ds_inset-text__text\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">The School Age Payment has not replaced school clothing grants. The School Age Payment is a new payment and it does not affect payments of the School Clothing Grant in any way. If you want to apply for both, you can. Information on how to apply can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mygov.scot\/best-start-grant-best-start-foods\/how-to-apply\">here<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>Free School Meals, Holiday Meal Payments and Clothing Grants<\/strong><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>Free School Meals<\/strong><\/em><\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"rich-text paragraph paragraph--type--text paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">All children at primary school in P1, P2, P3, P4 and P5 get free school meals every day they&#8217;re at school. You do not need to apply for this.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">If you&#8217;re the parent or carer of a child at primary school in P6 and P7, and you get certain benefits, you can apply to get free school meals.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em><strong>School meal payments during the holidays<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">If you&#8217;re the parent or carer of a child at primary school, and you&#8217;re on certain benefits, you can get payments for meals during the school holidays.
