Tiddler the Story Telling Fish

P2/1 listened to the story of Tiddler by Julia Donaldson and shared their likes and dislikes about the story. The class discussed how the story was familiar to the story of The Boy Who Cried Wolf. The children discussed the impact of telling tall tales and fibs. During Writing time, the children made up their own excuse for Tiddler to tell his teacher the next time he is late! You can see these excuses below and also listen to the story below!

P2/1 topic

Today we started our new topic called ‘Hot and Cold’. We discussed what we knew:

”Antarctic is very cold.” Laya

”A hurricane is cold.” Theo

”Ice cream is cold.” Poppie

We

We then discussed what we wanted to find out:

”How is fire made?”

”How hot are jungles?”

“What animals live in hot and cold places?”

”Why are some places hot and some places cold?”

”can a desert have snow?”

We can’t wait to start learning!

Elf on the Shelf Literacy and Maths

Our P2/1 class elf, William, left us a note along with some lovely, new books for Miss Rai to read to us. William said he had seen us learn about tally marks and left us 4 four Christmas stories to read and listen to. We were then to ask everyone which story we preferred and record our results using tally marks!

The most popular book was The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas by Tom Fletcher and Dougherty Poynter.

Silly Sound Songs

The children in Primary 2/1 have enjoyed learning their new sounds this week. We came across these silly phonic songs and the children loved them! They wanted to share these songs with their friends and families at home!

Maths Week Scotland

P2/1 have enjoyed taking part in Maths Week Scotland this week. As the theme was weather this year, we revised the days of the week by writing in our weather diaries daily and made our own daily weather forecast reports. We practised writing our numbers when we made our own thermometers. Furthermore, we learned about directions when we made windsocks. It was fun testing them out in the playground!
“This is fun!” – Alfie
“I’m going to try and write my numbers in 10s.” – Maisie (talking about her thermometer)
“My windsock is moving! That means it’s windy.” – Tavis
