Movement and coordination
All children need daily outdoor play experiences to develop my sense of wellbeing and connect me to the world I live in. Outdoor play in different environments encourages me to move my body in different ways.
Access to resources that encourage open-ended experimentation helps develop fine and gross motor skills. For example,
loose parts play can involve large blocks I need to physically manipulate or small parts I need to help me with everyday self help skills.
Developing core strength and co-ordination supports children’s ability to communicate, learn language and eventually read and write. Whole body movements contribute to the accurate use of small tools and delicate materials. Writing, drawing and painting should be considered as whole-body skills.
