{"id":6481,"date":"2019-09-09T15:29:57","date_gmt":"2019-09-09T15:29:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/re\/wallace\/?p=6481"},"modified":"2019-09-09T15:29:57","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T15:29:57","slug":"homework-week-beginning-9-9-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/re\/wallace\/2019\/09\/09\/homework-week-beginning-9-9-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Homework week beginning 9.9.19"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Homework is issued on a Monday and should be returned on a Friday signed.<\/p>\n<p>Homework folders should be available in school each day so that children may access their reading books and letters issued be stored safely.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Homework tasks this week:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading<\/strong>&#8211; core reader (reading book);<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spelling<\/strong>&#8211; spelling pattern <em>th<\/em>&#8211; and common words (are, come, of, new)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Please encourage your child to:<\/p>\n<p>Say the word\u00a0\u00a0 e.g. think<\/p>\n<p>Break it into the sounds e.g. th-i-n-k (4 sounds)<\/p>\n<p>Blend it- th\u2026i\u2026n\u2026k.. (stretching out each sound)<\/p>\n<p>Write it (whilst covering the word)<\/p>\n<p>Check it (against the written format)<\/p>\n<p>This will help your child to use their sounds knowledge to learn to spell.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It will help your child\u2019s learning if you tackle one column of spelling on 2 different nights.<\/p>\n<p>An active spelling grid is in the front cover of the literacy homework jotter. You should pick one to try on a third night.<\/p>\n<p>There is a spelling dictation on a Friday. This is recorded in the back of the literacy homework jotter. In Primary 2 this dictation is getting children used to the format of a spelling test which is tricky in itself so please don&#8217;t worry about errors- it is early days and a new experience for the children.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maths<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Subtraction\/ taking away.<\/p>\n<p>Children have practised writing subtraction stories for word problems in class. Help your child understand the picture problem as a take-away sum<\/p>\n<p>e.g. There are 9 sheep and 4 are removed leaving 5 sheep left<\/p>\n<p>(9-4= 5)<\/p>\n<p>If your child is looking for increased challenge- Tell them a subtraction word problem- can they write a subtraction sentence?<\/p>\n<p>e.g. I have 7 sweets and I gave 2 to you.\u00a0 How many would I have left?<\/p>\n<p>Child should write\u00a0\u00a0 7-2=5<\/p>\n<p>(Many children will miss the 2 in the subtraction sentence and go straight to the answer)<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Favourite Fairy Tale- <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We enjoyed reading <em>Jasper\u2019s Beanstalk <\/em>by Nick Butterworth. At the end of the story we made a <strong>connection<\/strong> to Jack and The Beanstalk.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Your child has been asked to think about their favourite Fairy tale and why they like it.
