Learning through health and wellbeing enables children and young people to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Make informed decisions in order to improve their mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Experience challenge and enjoyment<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Experience positive aspects of healthy living and activity for themselves<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Apply their mental, emotional, social and physical skills to pursue a healthy lifestyle<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Make a successful move to the next stage of education or work<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Establish a pattern of health and wellbeing which will be sustained into adult life, and which will help to promote the health and wellbeing of the next generation of Scottish children<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 And, for some, perform at high levels in sport or prepare for careers within the health and leisure industries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Health and wellbeing in schools covers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Planning for choices and changes<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Physical education, physical activity and sport<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Food and health<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Substance misuse<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Relationships, sexual health and parenthood<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Within our Health programme we cover three main strands: physical, emotional and social.<\/p>\n<p>Health and wellbeing cannot exist in a vacuum. It requires exchange of information, mutual support and collaboration with community partners, schools and parents.<\/p>\n<p>Physical Education is essential to the growth and development of all children and we teach gymnastics, body conditioning, games skills and dance. Each session, Primary 6 pupils receive a block of swimming lessons at Elderslie Baths. Primary 7 pupils visit Elderslie Bowling Club in the first and fourth term to learn the rules of Bowls. The Commonwealth Games of 2014 will be used as a platform to promote many sports and activities, both within and outwith the school curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>Our Active Schools Co-ordinator is Mr Paul Keegan.<\/p>\n<p>Wallace Primary School and Nursery Class is a Health Promoting School<\/p>\n<p>We:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 Maintain effective liaison with the school medical services<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Maintain effective liaison with external agencies<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Promote healthy eating<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Encourage drinking water in school<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Provide fresh fruit for pupils in Primary 1 and Primary 2<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Promote healthy lifestyles<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 Promote safe lifestyles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Learning in health and wellbeing ensures that children and young people develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, capacities and attributes which they need for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing now and in the future.
