Homework
Homework is an integral part of learning and teaching. It provides the opportunity for the development of self reliance, self discipline, self confidence and participation in taking responsibility for learning by your child. It also strengthens the link between home and school in providing an opportunity for parents and carers to share in the learning process. Homework can take many forms and will reflect the age, stage and area of learning currently being undertaken by your child. It will be issued on a regular basis and will be varied, meaningful and interesting.
Todholm Primary School has a homework policy based on Renfrewshire Council’s policy and guidance. You can request a copy of this policy from the school office.
Homework at Todholm is set for various reasons;
- to reinforce work taught at school
- to keep parents in touch with the work their children are covering at school
- to establish a “study” routine for children
In Primaries 1-3 the children can find the day at school quite tiring. In order to be ready for their busy days they should be in bed early.
As children progress through the school it is important that you take an interest in your child’s work and demonstrate to your child that homework is of value. We send homework home in a Todholm packet to show children that it is important.
We would appreciate your signature on your child’s homework record, showing that you have checked your child’s work and any comment you would like to make will receive a response.
As our pupils get older, homework is used to encourage pupils to budget their time, integrate learning by using a variety of sources of information and establish the discipline of self-motivation, preparing them for the greater depth of study to be encountered in Secondary Education.
Homework should not exceed 10-15 minutes for P1-3 pupils, 15-20 minutes for P4-5, or 20-30 minutes for P6-7 pupils each evening.
