The council supports an agreed dress code because of the benefits it brings, including improvements in safety, security, discipline, ethos and community spirit, and a decrease in bullying and expense for parents.<\/p>\n<p>Some types of clothing will not be allowed in school for reasons of safety, decency or indiscipline. Types of clothing which will not be allowed include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 clothes which are a health or safety risk;<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 clothes which may damage the school building;<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 clothes which may provoke other pupils;<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 clothes which are offensive or indecent; and<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 clothes which encourage the use of alcohol or tobacco, or other inappropriate substances.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pupils will not be deprived of education, any benefit or access to examinations because of not wearing school uniform.<\/p>\n<p>In the interests of health and safety, of both individual and others present, all jewellery, including body jewellery, must be removed before taking part in physical education lessons or physical activities.<\/p>\n<p>Grants for footwear and clothing for children are available to parents receiving:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 income support;<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 income based job seeker&#8217;s allowance;<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 pension credit;<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 housing benefit;<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 council tax benefit; or<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 depending on annual income, child tax credit or working tax credit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Information and application forms for free school meals are available from schools, registration offices and customer service centres. A form can be downloaded from the council&#8217;s website: www.renfrewshire.gov.uk.<\/p>\n<p>Please help the school and the education authority by making sure that pupils do not bring valuable or expensive items of clothing to school. The council has no insurance to cover the loss of valuable items.<\/p>\n<p>The uniform for pupils of St. Mary\u2019s Primary School is as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 <strong>white <\/strong>shirt with school tie (referred to as dress uniform)<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 <strong>white <\/strong>polo shirt with or without school logo (can be worn on PE days)<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 <strong>navy <\/strong>sweater\/cardigan\/sweatshirt (<strong>not grey<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 <strong>grey <\/strong>or <strong>navy <\/strong>skirt\/trousers<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 please note black is <strong>not <\/strong>and school colour other than for shoes\/jackets<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 no unnecessary items of jewellery, etc. (watches, signet type rings and small, flat earrings are acceptable)<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 no make-up<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For PE lessons pupils should wear:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\uf0b7 <strong>navy <\/strong>sports shorts<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 <strong>white <\/strong>sports t-shirt or school polo shirt<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 <strong>white <\/strong>socks (grey, blue and black are also acceptable)<\/li>\n<li>\uf0b7 gym shoes<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each pupil is required to keep a pair of gym shoes in the shoe bag provided.<\/p>\n<p>No items of jewellery can be worn during PE lessons or other sporting\/physical activities and, for reasons of hygiene, tights are not permitted from P2 onwards.<\/p>\n<p>Pupils are not permitted to wear football colours at any time in school or during school activities taking place out with school.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>School dress Renfrewshire Council encourages each school to adopt a dress code after discussion with parents, pupils and the parent council.
