Health and Wellbeing

Health and wellbeing is a core element of Curriculum for Excellence. In order for our children to be successful learners, they need to be safe, secure and ready to learn. For this reason the wellbeing of every child at St. John Bosco primary school is at the heart of all that we do.

  • make informed decisions in order to understand and improve their mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing;
  • be resilient so that they can experience challenge and enjoyment;
  • experience positive aspects of healthy living and activity for themselves;
  • establish a pattern of health and wellbeing which will be sustained into adult life, and which will help to promote the health and wellbeing of the next generation of Scottish children.

We are a nurture promoting school and all staff are trained in Renfrewshire Nurturing Relationships Approach (RNRA) this approach ensures that all children are treated as individuals and supported appropriately.

Within St. John Bosco Primary we use the EmotionWorks resource to support the development of emotional literacy and enable our pupils from primary one to primary seven to identify and manage their emotions in a positive manner.

Throughout the school year we have focus weeks such as Health Week when we have a focus on exercise and healthy eating. This important week in our school calendar culminates in our school sports day, which is enjoyed by our whole school community.
