• Wooden cable reels
• Larges pieces of fabric and tarpaulin
• Ropes

Loose Parts Play

Loose Part Play St Fergus’

We are going to be introducing loose parts play into our learning in St Fergus’. Loose parts play has been used for many years with amazing results. It is encouraged throughout the primary curriculum for indoor and outdoor learning opportunities.

It is a chance for children to

  • Play freely with friends
  • Investigate
  • Discover
  • Explore
  • Create
  • Use lots of trial and error to learn for themselves
  • Learn to make their own judgements about adventure play and recognise safe limits.

To do this we need to collect loose parts. The list of possible loose parts is endless but can include:

  • Boxes – various sizes, materials and shapes
  • Feathers
  • Shells
  • Pine Cones
  • Stones and Pebbles
  • Tubes – various sizes, materials and shapes
  • Baskets
  • Funnels
  • Sieves
  • Beads
  • Ribbons
  • Bottle Lids
  • Old Keys
  • Glass Jars
  • Corks
  • Nuts/Bolts/Washers
  • Scarves/Fabrics
  • Hoses/Pipes/Gutters
  • Pegs
  • Buttons
  • Small wheel from old toys
  • Old cars or toys that move
  • Metal baking trays or cup cake tins
  • Wooden and metal utensils
  • Pots/Pans
  • Small gardening tools
  • Watering cans

If you have any of these things at home that you would be willing to donate to the school we would love to have them. Please only donate things that you already have at home and are no longer used.

A box will be left just outside the school gate for items to be left. Scot will bring the box into school for the items to be quarantined and cleaned before use.

Thank You

Judo

This morning  we had a very special visitor in primary 2. Jack taught us some Judo 🥋. He also taught us to say some words in Japanese as Judo comes from Japan  🇯🇵 .

Shae – I was excited to help Jack with some Judo moves.

Shae – It felt like I was doing a cartwheel.

Jackson – Judo is super fun.

Christmas Tea

The Mini Vinnie’s have been working on a top secret project over the past few months! They have been learning to sew and they have been making Christmas Decorations for some of our parishioners in St Fergus.

We invited some of the parishioners and Fr John to join us for a festive Christmas Tea and to gift them some decorations and cards.

Some of our Mini Vinnie’s even entertained us with some musical performances.

We wish you all a very happy Christmas and a wonderful new year.

House Points Reward

This year the pupil council have been working hard to revamp our house point system. We have decided instead of a weekly extra play on a Friday afternoon we would rather have a larger treat at the end of each month. In November St Mirin had collected the most house points and they received the first house reward of 2018.

We had juice and haribo at half time, playing games with Mrs Patterson was hard work.

Mrs Fulton helped us with some amazing Christmas crafts.

I had to concentrate really hard – Ula

I like playing with Kyle – Ross

Points are now being collected for our December reward which will take place in January 2019.

Book Week 2018

last week was book week 2018. In Primary 2 we learned all about different parts of a book. We can identify the title, the aurthor and the illustrator. We also know that we can read the blurb on the back of a book to get a little idea about what the book is going to be about.

We looked at lots of different books and we found the title, author, illustrator, blurb, barcode and price of the book.

later in the week we had a visit from book bug who very kindly presented us with our read, write count bags for 2018. We had lots of fun.

We recieved our bags, filled with lots of nice things.

We sang some fun songs.

We played games.

We heard a wonderful story.

Digital Leaders

The digital leaders from primary 7 came into our class to teach us about sumdog. They helped us find the app on our IPAD and they showed us how to log in.

Sumdog is a fun app that helps us develop our maths skills.

In our homework folders next week you will find our log in details so that we can log in at home and play some fun maths games.

Iain was a great helper – Maisie May

I really had to think – Niamh

I love this game – Caiden

I can wait to play against my friends – Daniel
