This project is an adaptation of the Active Learning through Music programme which aims to engage with Nursery and P1/2 children and links to the literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing outcomes of Curriculum for Excellence.
The programme focusses on encouraging musical development in the early years and encourages participation by all children. Tutors use singing games and rhymes and there is an emphasis on oral development, language and literacy skills. Staff training is offered to accompany the resource packs designed for use by non specialist staff.
This project offers additional training and development to the teachers who have previously or recently engaged with the programme. There will also be an opportunity for any schools or teachers who have not engaged previously to get on board.
This approach focuses on fostering musical development in the early years to enhance language skills. Learning singing games and rhymes can enhance skills in a whole range of areas but particularly by raising awareness of the rhythm of language.
