Mission and Aims

The English as an Additional Language (EAL) team works in partnership with children, young people, parents, carers, schools and other agencies to ensure equality of opportunity through the process of inclusion.

  • The aim of the Renfrewshire English as an Additional Language team is to make a positive difference for children and young people by implementing GIRFEL strategies.
  • Our aim is also to facilitate full participation and achievement of bilingual learners in education, to promote equality, inclusion and social justice, and to this end, to build supportive partnerships with schools, agencies and parents.
  • To provide support which is directed at raising the attainment of bilingual learners.
  • We aim to help schools make their provision more accessible to, and inclusive of, pupils who are learning through English as an  Additional Language, so as to improve their learning outcomes and experiences.
  • To provide support, based on the principles of equality and fairness, which promotes high expectations of achievement for all pupils; to support partnerships with parents and carers directed at supporting the learning needs of their children.
