Literacy

Rationale

The Renfrewshire Literacy Approach continues to grow and evolve and a range of professional learning is ongoing to ensure the sustainability of the approach and to meet the needs of teachers and school leaders.

We will continue to focus on closing the poverty-related attainment gap while raising attainment for all.  In addition, attainment data highlights gaps in pupil progress as a result of extended periods of remote learning.  This is most obvious in writing.

We will continue to provide a range of  high-quality CLPL to deepen practitioners’ knowledge and understanding of effective pedagogy in literacy and increase teacher confidence in the implementation of range of evidence-based approaches.

Intended Outcomes

  • Tailored support will be provided to schools across the authority, as required, to ensure staff have increased knowledge of a range of targeted, evidence-based approaches to raise attainment in literacy.
  • All practitioners, from early years to secondary, will have access to a range of professional learning opportunities in literacy including the introduction of new programmes relating to phonics and writing.
  • Additional CLPL aligned to the wider Renfrewshire Literacy Approach will be introduced to increase teacher knowledge, skill and confidence in the teaching of writing.
