Leading the Renfrewshire Literacy Approach

PLEASE NOTE THESE SESSIONS WILL NOT BE GOING AHEAD AS THIS COURSE DID NOT MEET THE MINIMUM NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS

Literacy Champions and school leadership teams have varied experience of both training in and implementation of the Renfrewshire Literacy Approach.  These sessions are designed to support those leading literacy within their establishments by focussing on key aspects which underpin Renfrewshire’s Literacy Approach.

These sessions may be helpful for those who have recently moved to Renfrewshire, adopted the role of Literacy Champion or assumed responsibility for literacy as part of their wider remit. They may also be a helpful refresher to those who have undertaken training previously.  Sessions will take place weekly in term 1 on a drop-in basis:

Session 1: The Primary Literacy Coaching Programme – 28/8/23

  • Getting the Text Level Right
  • Book Banding
  • Reader Engagement

Session 2: Raising Attainment in Reading – 4/9/23

  • The Dive into Reading Approach
  • The 3 Sharings
  • Reader Response Pedagogy
  • Effective Use of Reading Journals

Session 3: Raising Attainment in Writing – 11/9/23

  • The Dive into Writing Approach
  • Supporting Reluctant & Struggling Writers
  • Effective Use of Writing Journals
  • The Evidence Base for Raising Attainment in Writing

All sessions will take place at Arkleston Learning Hub from 3.45 – 5.15pm.

Tailored support on any of the above can also be offered to individuals or senior leadership teams.
