Primary STEM

Rationale

It is critical for the future economic growth and employment demands of Scotland as a STEM nation that every young person enjoys a positive experience of, and engagement with, high quality science education in primary school.  High quality CLPL in relation to the teaching of STEM content and effective pedagogy is critical to achieving this.

Intended Outcomes

  • Schools will be supported in meeting the aspirations of the National Improvement Framework and the STEM Education and Training Strategy for Scotland
  • Opportunities for peer-to-peer support through networking activities will provide capacity for communication, collaboration and the sharing of good practice.
  • High quality CLPL will build teachers’ confidence, skills, knowledge and enthusiasm in relation to STEM learning, teaching and assessment
  • Opportunities for all learners will increase their experience, engagement, enthusiasm and achievement in STEM
  • Practitioners will champion equality and challenge inequities in STEM learning and STEM opportunities
  • STEM skills will be developed through real-life contextualised learning opportunities, linked to the Career Education Standard and the skills for learning, life and work
