This programme centres on the use of continual diagnostic assessment that allows the teacher to pinpoint the exact stage of conceptual development for a child. This empowers the teacher in planning tailored next steps in learning that move the child on and help close attainment gaps in numeracy. The course is founded on the ideas in the Teaching Number series of books, which underpinned previous authority work on S.E.A.L.
As well as learning the underpinning principles of the Maths Recovery framework and seeing the assessments in action, teachers will be provided with a multitude of games, tasks and activities that can be easily implemented in class.
This programme encourages teachers to take an enquiring approach, gathering assessment data and reflecting on the impact of the intervention. Collaboration can really enhance the success of this programme so it lends itself well to a whole- school, whole-department or group approach. There will be 4 twilight sessions in total.
