A range of training will be available both online in person. The courses listed below aim to build on previous supports to improve data literacy skills. If you require additional support then please contact the team directly.

Dive into Data (SMT)

This is a three-part course which looks at how to analyse data and . These sessions aim to promote discussions around data and to create authority approaches to developing a data literacy culture. These sessions will run in Oct-Nov and again in Mar-Apr. 

Session 1- Analysing Data

Session 2- Designing an Evaluation

Session 3- Creating a Data Literacy Culture

Optional- follow up session to discuss school data

This course is designed for head teachers or members of the senior management team. Staff who participated pre-pandemic can attend a shorter refresher session prior to any follow up sessions. 

Key Skills Courses (Class Teachers)

We will run a range of online sessions which focus on key skills required to work with data. These include-

  • Excel 1- Basics- This course will provide an introduction to using Excel and will demonstrate how to filter data, sort data and hide/unhide columns.
  • Excel 2- Charts & Graphs– This course will provide an introduction to how to create charts and graphs on Excel.
  • Excel 3- Pivot Tables– This course will provide an introduction to using the pivot table function on Excel. Pivot tables allow you to quickly summarise information from large datasets without manual calculations.
  • An Introduction to Data Analysis– This course will give a step by step guide on how to approach data analysis.
  • An Introduction to Evaluation– This course will give an overview of evaluation design and provide good practice guidelines.
  • Designing Surveys– This course will discuss how to design survey questions in a robust and consistent way. The analysis survey will be covered briefly however it may be useful to also attend the ‘introduction to data analysis’ session.
  • Data Dashboard Demo– This course will cover how to navigate and use the authority data dashboard site.
  • Renfrewshire Primary Trackers– This course will cover how to enter data and use summary information within the Renfrewshire tracker. It may be useful to attend this course in addition to the Excel supports as they will also be highly relevant for making the most of the trackers.

These sessions are aimed at class teachers although other staff are welcome to attend. These courses are online and last approximately 45 mins to 1 hour. They can be completed as a course or as standalone sessions.  Course dates will be shared on CPD.
