It may have come just over a week from Eid, but that didn’t dampen the spirits of our Muslim EAL learners and their friends in Paisley Grammar School when we gathered to celebrate the end of Ramadan and the arrival of Eid together.
The EAL Room has never been as vibrant – or smelled so fabulous due to the generous offerings of food given by parents and carers to help us mark the occasion (and put on a few kilos too inevitably!). Paltry lunchtime sandwiches of bland cheese are simply not going to cut it any longer!
It was wonderful to have so many of our learners and their friends come together to celebrate such a special occasion in our Muslim learners’ religious and cultural lives. Likewise, a huge thank you is due to the members of staff who gave up their lunch break to join in, too.
However, the biggest thanks must go to the Headteacher, Mrs Levens, and Deputy Head Teacher, Mrs MrCrory, not only for being our guests of honour, but for the unforgettable moves they cut on the, erm, “dancefloor” when led in an impromptu rendition of traditional dance under the tutelage of one of our S2 girls.
All in all, it was a lovely event and an experience that will last in the memory for some time. Here’s to the next one!
