P5S – Maths Week Scotland Activities

This week we had lots of fun with maths. Yesterday we went outside in the sunshine to see if we could spot any maths in the playground. You had to record your findings by taking a photograph and discuss with your partner how it was linked to maths. Some of you even made up questions based on what you had discovered. Others had the chance to estimate and measure items in the playground. We even had a few of you who were spot on with your estimations. Well done!

At the end of our P.E. session yesterday we made a human bar graph (it was so big we couldn’t fit our titles into the photograph). You had to decide  on your favourite sport. As you can see, football was the most popular in our class. Can you work out how many of you chose football? I think one of you was hiding so count carefully!

P5S – Maths Week Scotland – Co-op Visit

As part of our Maths Week Scotland we visited Bishopton Co-op. We took a couple of trundle wheels with us to measure the distance between the school and the shop.

In our maths pairs we had a shopping list to price and total. How did you do? Much fun was had locating and pricing the items on the list. Once this was completed you then had the opportunity to select and pay for some shopping items of your own. What did you buy? Were you able to work out how much change you would receive?

A huge thank you to our parent helpers who came along with us and became our shopping experts as they helped us find the items on our shopping list. It was much appreciated!

Here are a few photographs from our visit. Some of you were so fast at completing your shopping list I never got any photos of you!

P5S – Maths Week Scotland Activities

This week we have managed to get outside (between rain showers) and take part in our daily mile. As it is maths week everyone had to count the number of steps they took to complete one lap of the middle playground – without cutting any corners!

Back in class we added up the total number in each group then calculated our class total.  27 of you took part and the grand total of steps taken was ……… 3245 …….. in one lap! If we walked/ran 7 laps, how many steps would that be?

P5D – Maths Day

Today the whole school took part in a number of activities to promote maths during our Maths Week Scotland. You had the opportunity to not only work on your mental maths skills by playing a number of games on Sumdog, but you also had the chance to move your class (and our school) further up the Sumdog leaderboard. At present your class are in second place in Bishopton Primary School – 102nd. You still have plenty of time to gain more points as the contest is on until Thursday evening.

Here are a few photographs from this morning. Look at all the smiling faces. Who would of thought maths could be so much fun?

Remember to keep playing as part of your homework this week.

P5S – Maths Week Scotland – Co-op Visit

Next Friday (15th) we are hoping to visit the Co-op as part of our Maths Week. We will be leaving about 9.25am and returning to school at 10.25am in time for break. To allow us to do this, we will require 2 parent helpers to come along with us. If someone at home is able to help, please comment on this post or send a note in to school.
