Today you were issued your Book Detectives homework. Each of you chose a book to read at home. You also decided on the number of chapters/pages you would read. We will reassess this next week to see whether or not it is manageable for you. For Thursday 7th September you should complete the following:

  • Read the chapters/pages chosen. You should read, at least a chapter, aloud to someone at home. If possible, please ask them to complete the feedback form. Remember to use the 3 sharings method when discussing your book (the suggested questions are on the inside cover of your jotter).
  • Complete the Word Finder segment – 5 words with definitions. Please remember to record the page number.
  • Complete the Illustrator segment – draw a picture related to what you have read and write a sentence (or two) to describe what your picture is showing.

Examples of both segments can be found below.

If you have any questions, please ask.

Good afternoon everyone! I hope you are having a great weekend. Here is your homework for this week. Please keep reading for a note of our reminders for this week.

Please remember, if you are unsure of any aspect of your homework, to ask in class as soon as possible. You may also leave a comment on the blog for me. Please DO NOT leave any questions until the day your homework is due as this will be too late.

Spelling:  You should complete either list 20 or list 31 in your jotter. Please remember each word (12 in total) should be written out twice in your jotter. A further two words with the same spelling rule should be found and recorded in your jotter. Choose 5 of your spelling words and write an uplevelled sentence for each of them. I was very impressed with some of the sentences in your homework last week – keep it up!

You should remember to take care with your presentation.  Please ensure you are including a date and title at the beginning of your work. Your title should be your list number. This task should be completed and returned to school by Friday.

Reading:  There has been a slight delay in issuing our reading books as I have to ensure that each of you has a suitable book to take home. Hopefully we will be ready to send books home with everyone on Thursday.

Personal Reading Challenge: Our Personal Reading Challenge has started. You should now have a chosen book that you are reading as part of our challenge. This book should be read at home.

Please remember to bring your book to school as this will allow you to read it during our ERIC sessions.

Maths:  Maths homework jotters will be issued in class tomorrow. Your maths homework has been posted on our blog. Please click the relevant link below (I will let you know on Monday which group you should access). If you require a paper copy of the questions, please ask.

Please read each question carefully so you understand fully what is being asked of you and the type of operation which should be used.

Each answer should show all workings and include a sentence answer. I will model how to do this in class on Monday. This task should be completed and returned to school by Friday. Your maths homework jotter will be issued in class on Monday.

Worded Problems

  1. There are 477 children at Bishopton Primary School. 219 of them are girls. How many are boys?
  1. There are 45 apples lying on the ground. If 5 children picked up the same amount of apples, how many would they have each?
  1. Forbes went to Costcutters with his pocket money. He had £5.00 to spend. If Forbes bought a magazine for £2.90 and a packet of crisps for 55p, how much money would he have left?
  1. There are 27 children our class. If all of the children received a merit sticker each week, for 2 weeks, how many merit stickers would I need to hand out?
  1. Ellie is saving to buy some new ice skates. She has found the perfect pair which cost £60.00. Unfortunately she only has £36.50 saved. How much money does Ellie still need to buy the ice skates?
  1. We have 27 children in Primary 5S who take part in our Daily Mile sessions. If we were to buy each child a waterproof jacket, costing £10 per jacket, how much would we need to pay in total?
  1. In our class we have 7 groups. If each group has 13 felt pens in their basket, how many pens do we have in total?
