P5S – Maths Week – Day 2

@BishoptonPS  @AttainRen  and #MWSREN  @PMCmathematics @MathsScot

Today we had another busy day of maths. This morning we linked our P.E. session with maths and took part in a number of timed exercises. How did you do? Did you manage to complete them all?

Here you are keeping fit and using maths.

Next we learned about a number of famous mathematicians and their discoveries. Can you tell someone at home something about them? Your fact files are really taking shape and I look forward to reading them.

This afternoon we learned all about Fibonacci and the sequence of numbers he invented. Can you remember how the sequence is worked out?  We also looked at Fibonacci’s Golden Ratio and how it is found in so many places. Can you remember where examples of the Golden Ratio spiral can be found? Please wow someone at home with your knowledge.

As part of our music lessons and to tie in with your River Clyde topic you will be learning the song below. We will be practising in class however you will also need to practice at home too. Please access the video and lyrics to the song below. The lyrics are slightly out of sync on the video but you can use the paper copy that I have already given you.

P5S – Scottish Parliament

As part of our Scottish Parliament topic we looked at the carving on the Canongate Wall of the parliament building in Edinburgh. The design was created by architect, Enric Miralles, and is  a carving of the Edinburgh skyline. Can you remember what the design is made from?

In class we made our own viewfinders and some of us created our own pencil sketching of a view from the classroom/corridor window. Others used a view of the Edinburgh skyline, just like Enric Miralles. Here are a few photos of us hard at work. Photos of our completed designs will follow soon once they are displayed on the wall. I think you will be very impressed.

P5 – Beatriz Milhazes – Homework Task

Image result for brazilian flag

As part of our Brazil topic we will be looking at the Brazilian artist, Beatriz Milhazes. Next week in class we will be recreating some of her paintings. For homework this week I would like you to access the link below and familiarise yourself with her work. For additional information on her background you should click the Biography tab on the homepage.

Some of the vocabulary used is a little tricky but please remember if you are unsure of what a word means, you should use a dictionary (or ask) to check the definition.

You should then write a short paragraph (no more than 50 words) about Beatriz and her work. This should be in your own words as much as possible – DO NOT just copy directly from the text. Let me know your personal thoughts on her paintings. Think about the following questions when writing your paragraph.

  • When and where was she born?
  • What style of art does she create?
  • What do you think of it?
  • Why do you think that?
  • Is there a particular painting you like?
  • Why do you like it?

Beatriz Milhazes

You should leave your paragraph as a post on our blog and I will publish them all at the end of the week. If you are unable to post on the blog, please complete your paragraph on paper. This task should be completed for Friday.
