Homework – Week Beginning 18th of September

Good afternoon everyone.

I hope you’re all having a great weekend! Bishopton Primary is closed this Friday (and the following Monday, the 25th of September) for the September Weekend holiday, so we are going to have a busy week of learning ahead of us. Since the school is shut on Friday, this weeks homework should be completed for Thursday 22nd of September.

You have really impressed me with your accurate spelling over the past few weeks. I’d like you to now focus on developing your sentences, making them longer and more ambitious – using your VCOP (vocabulary, connectives, openers and punctuation). Please also look over my notes and comments from your last spelling homework before starting this weeks.

Word Wizards and Super Spellers please complete List 22 and Speedy Spellers List 33, with all groups also completing the common words (writing out each word twice). Please then find two words that have the same spelling rule (not just two words that sound the same). Finally, write 5 sentences with each sentence containing 1 of your spelling words for the week.

Our current focus in Maths is on multiplication and division. In order to progress with our learning, it is very important that you are confident in your times tables.

In class, we took an informal survey and most of the class were confident in their 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 times tables. However, many of the class were not as confident in their 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables.

This week I’d like you to spend at least ten minutes per night practicing your times tables, focussing on the 6, 7, 8 and 9 times tables (you can spend more than ten minutes if you choose!) Below are links to two different websites that are good for practicing your tables, but you can also practice with just a sheet of paper or out loud with an adult or older sibling at home. Eventually we should be able to answer any times table sum straight away, so even if you think you know all your times tables, you should focus on answering questions as quickly as possible.

You now have 2 weeks to work on your individual project. All details can be found here.  Please don’t leave this until the last minute!

See you all tomorrow!

Mr Donaldson
