Apologies for the delay in getting the photos from last week’s masterclass up on the blog!
Last week in the science masterclass, we learned all about fingerprints. Fingerprints are unique and have been used to identify people for over 100 years. We learned about the 3 basic pattern types: loops, whorls and arches and then tried recording our partner’s fingerprints using the inkpads. It was a lot more difficult to get a clear set of fingerprints that it first appeared!
In the second part of the masterclass, we practised dusting for fingerprints after leaving impressions on a plastic cup. We had to be very careful with the carbon powder and fine-haired brushes so we didn’t deposit too much powder on the fingerprint. Once we had dusted and removed the excess powder, we used a sticky strip to remove the print and stored it on black card for easier identification.
What a lot of fun with fingerprints!
During technologies time, P4C were lucky enough to have another very special visitor. David came to tell us all about his job as a building services engineer. He told us all about his job and how it links together with the jobs of other engineers. David has worked on some really exciting projects in the past and we asked him lots of questions all about them. We also learned about some famous Scottish engineer, what an inspiration to us all!
We are learning all about the world of engineering so we can become members of the Institution of Primary Engineers!
Thank you very much to David for coming along to visit us!
The Bishopton Primary Drama Society will launch next Monday 2nd October. We had a fantastic response from Primary 4-7 pupils and look forward to seeing everyone who has handed in a form next week! It will be held in Miss Grant’s room at 3.15pm – 4.15pm.
See you all next week!
