Can I also ask that you return your Parents Evening slips ASAP so that your guardians can get their appointment times.

P4R – Coding with Kodu

Kodu Game Lab | Kodu game lab, Kodu game, Teacher favorite things

We had a wonderful time in P4R learning how to use Kodu. Kodu is a visual programming language used to introduce children and young people to the world of coding. Our first lesson was all about getting familiar with the controls and building a world with different terrains and objects. The class did so well that we even had a wee look at coding our first character!

Programming in Kodu uses a when -> do format. This means that we tell the objects we are coding that when something happens, the character should do something else. When we coded Kodu we used the code: when keyboard arrows -> do move. This means that when the game is played and the user presses the keyboard arrows, the Kodu character will move around the world.

It was great to see the class so engaged with their learning, making their own creative worlds and programming their first characters – well done P4R!

Kodu is free software that can be downloaded on certain devices (not on Apple products unfortunately). If you could like to try it at home, click on the Kodu picture at the top of this post to go to the link.

Hello P4R,

For spelling this week you have been given your new words for the term and please complete this in your homework jotter this week. You have your reading books to practice, please read aloud for ten minutes every day. Finally, today you have been given a maths challenge to complete. Please complete this in your maths homework jotters and not on the sheet. If you are finding the challenge too tricky please let me know and we can go over it in class.

A reminder to share your achievements outside of school with us so that you can receive a wider achievement certificate at assembly to celebrate your success!

Have a lovely week,

Miss Ritchie
