Our World – Climate Change

Our ‘Our World’ unit of learning has got off to a great start.  As a class we have identified that we want to focus on climate change and particularly the impact of plastic in our oceans and we will be investigating this over the coming weeks.

So far we have been learning to work collaboratively in our groups and have made team names and posters. We are developing a range of skills which help us to work cooperatively with others.

Through a range of class discussions , Lego’s Instructions to our Leaders initiative and Our Promise to the Planet task we have shown that we have great knowledge as well as  many imaginative and creative ideas and ways to help solve problems surrounding climate change.

Here are some pictures of our team posters and our Forest of Promises.

Bishopton Primary STEM Competition

Bishopton Primary STEM Competition

We are delighted to announce that our Primary 7 Young STEM Leaders have organised a competition as part of National STEM Day.

National STEM Day is an opportunity to celebrate Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. It can also help promote skills for learning, life and work.

We are proud to promote sustainability, especially during COP 26, so this will play a role in the competition.

Please follow the link to see our leaders introduce the competition but below is the information.

Challenge: Create a car which is sustainable using every day household items. Can you use a renewable source?
Time: Monday 8th November – Tue 30th November
Who: Complete this task with your family. Get everyone involved to help you win house points. Will it be the Eagles, Falcons, Hawks or Ospreys?
Why: The task will help develop Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths skills.
It is great to work with our families.
It is great to win points and prizes for our houses.
How to enter: Create your own model car using a renewable source and then post a picture/video on your class team or ask an adult to tweet the school.
We look forward to seeing your brilliant work.

Learning About Sound

On Thursday, Primary 3M learned all about how sound travels. We learned that sounds are vibrations that travel through different mediums like air, metal and water. We wanted to show how this works so we made string telephones with cups to show how the vibration moves across the string into the cup. We tried using different cups and different lengths of string to determine whether this changed the pitch of the sound. We found that the shorter stringed telephones gave the clearer sound.

Welcome P3M!

Good evening,

It was lovely to meet everyone today and spend our first day together as a class. It was a day filled with lots of information about our new routines and everyone did a super job of taking it all in.

You will receive a homework letter soon which will detail any homework or class information that you will need to know.  In the meantime, our PE days are a Tuesday and a Friday and children can come to school in their kits as part of the relaxed school uniform.

Finally a quick reminder that we are a nut free school so please be careful when choosing items for snacks or packed lunches.

I look forward to seeing you all in the morning.
