P3. What will our week look like?

“The beautiful thing about learning is that no one can take it away from you.” —B.B. King

Welcome to a New Year! We hope you’ve managed to enjoy your Christmas and New Year holidays. Unfortunately, we’re not able to welcome you back the way we wanted to but we look forward to working with you online.

Here is a little rundown of how we would like our home learning to go:

  • There will be three main posts every day:
  • Every day you should say ‘hello/good morning’ in the Check-in post before starting any work. This will let us keep a register.
  • We will also have a Daily Task post where you will find the tasks for that day. There will be links there to take you to each assignment.
  • We will have a Pupil of the Day post where you can leave a compliment for your friend.
  • You may have a Team meeting. Your teacher will let you know when this is each week.  If you can please join the meeting to say hello and give us your news. It will be lovely to hear from you. If you can’t join us, please don’t worry.
  • Assignments– Please upload your work to the assignments tab so we can give you feedback.  We will set the closing date for assignments for one month and you can still hand them in after this date.
  • Daily Tasks– Every day you will have Literacy (spelling and at least one other task), Numeracy and Maths (mental and one main task), Health and Wellbeing (Pupil of the Day, daily fitness and another task) and one other curricular area .e.g. art, music, topic.
  • Sometimes additional tasks may be posted that are not assignments. You can simply respond to these with a comment or by uploading a photo when you reply to the post.
  • Please keep the General Channel tidy and only reply to the posts so there are not comments all over the place.   Please only chat with your friends and use emojis and GIFs in the Chill-Out Zone. Do not share your gamer username on Teams.
  • We know that every home has different arrangements about when and how you do work, so please do not worry if you can’t get everything or even anything done. You can only do what you can and please email us if you have any questions or worries. Could parents please use their personal email account and not their child’s glow account for this.

The most important thing is to stay safe and happy.  If you or your grown ups are finding it difficult to balance online learning with life at home, take a break from it and come back when you can. Just do what you do in school – try your best and ask for help if you need it.

Click on the ‘Thumbs-Up’ to see what we’ll be doing each week.

P3A & P3M Homework w.b 30th Nov

Hi everyone! Here is your homework for the week ahead.

Literacy –

Reading – Please read and discuss the text issued in class. Remember to use The 3 Sharings to do this as this will help you to understand what you have just read.

Spelling – Our spelling rule this week is ‘ai’

Your list of focus words is issued within your assignment in Teams.

Remember to choose an active spelling task to help you remember your words.

I wonder if you will see any of your words while you are reading? If you do, stop, look, spell, check.

Numeracy –

There is no numeracy assignment this week.

We have begun learning the 2, 10 and 5 times tables over the last few weeks.  Here is a link to some games you can play at home to help you learn them.

Spelling – Today  we discussed some spelling rules  including soft ‘g’.

Your list of focus words is issued within your assignment in Teams.

Remember to choose an activity from the choice board to help you remember your spelling rules.

Numeracy –

This assignment has been issued on Teams –

We have been working on estimating and rounding in class.  Start off by watching this short video.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDbyRzWfJNY

We have learned the rules for rounding. We know that if a number ends in 1, 2, 3 or 4 we round down and if the number ends in 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9 we round up. Can you remember the rhyme we learned in class to remember the rule?

Now complete the attached rounding to 10 activity if you can.
Ask someone at home to say some two digit numbers. Try rounding them to 10. You may wish to challenge yourself by getting them to say some three digit numbers. Remember the rule stays the same and you are still rounding to the nearest 10.
Finally can you find any examples of numbers being rounded up or down to make them easier to work with at home?  Examples may be found in the news or you may hear someone using the vocabulary of estimation we have been working with in class – about, roughly, nearly, estimated, approximately. E.g. – ‘There is nearly half the pack left.’ or ‘There is roughly 2 litres of paint left.’
We will discuss any examples found in class on Friday.
As always please ask if you are unsure,
Mrs McLean and Mrs McKay

Here are this week’s spelling words. You have words which follow the spelling rule and some common words.

Remember to look inside your spelling jotter to see the activities to do with your words.

The spelling rule is ‘Silent b’

lamb, comb, thumb, crumbs, climbing, plumber, set, put, end, does.

Please post a copy of your work on teams or send a copy by e-mail.

Homework Plan for P3

 P3 Homework Information

Here’s how homework will work this year in P3.  Homework will be posted weekly on the class blog and an assignment will be set up on Teams.  There will be no homework diaries.

Spelling

Spelling homework will start back from today, Monday 31st August.  Spelling words will be posted on class blog and Teams. There will be one spelling rule each week plus some tricky/common words.  Children will bring home a jotter to write their spelling homework in.  Please keep this jotter at home and upload a copy of their work to Teams once a week or email it to me.  On the inside cover of the jotter, there is a reminder of spelling tasks that should be completed over the week.

Reading

Reading books will start coming home on Monday 7th September and should be returned on a Thursday. As in P1 and P2, we will use the 3 sharings to discuss reading – What did you like/dislike, did the book remind you of anything, do you still wonder something about the book? Please try to read or discuss the book every night.

Maths

Maths homework will be posted on blogs and on Teams from Monday 14th September. As with spelling homework, please upload or email homework to me.

All homework will have been explained in class and the spelling rule/maths topic will be being taught in class. The Teams assignment may include videos/games or other links that will help with that week’s tasks.

From time to time topic homework tasks may be set too.

Please let me know if you have any difficulties accessing Glow/Teams and alternative arrangements can be made. If you have any questions about homework, please do not hesitate to contact me by email or through Teams.

Here’s to a great year in P3.
