Good morning! What a busy week that was! I hope all of the children are having a well deserved rest. Please keep reading for a note of  our homework and reminders for the coming week.

Sounds: Sound cards for “y” and “x” will be added to the book bags. Please continue to practice all of the sounds learned to date. These should be looked over as often as possible at home. To challenge your child, please ask them to think of/find something that begins with or contains that specific sound.

Letter “y”

Letter “x”

Word Walls: Please continue to check over these with your child as often as possible as this will build their confidence in reading the words independently. Only the words highlighted in yellow should be practiced. Your child should also be able to use these words correctly in a sentence. Once we are seeing your child do so, with confidence, we will highlight the box green.

Reading: New reading books will be sent home by Tuesday. Please read them with your child, discussing the story/words. The children should sound out the words and, where necessary, use the picture cues to help them “read” the words.

All library books should now have been returned to school. If you still have a library book at home, please send this back to school this week.

New personal home readers will be issued on Friday.

Listening & Talking: We will be performing our Scottish poems to the class this week. We are looking forward to hearing the children.

Maths: Please complete another activity on the Bingo sheet. Once completed, please sign and date the sheet beside the chosen task.

H&WB: Please continue to practice your chosen home target. If you have not yet completed the target sheet, please do so this week so we are aware of your child’s chosen target. Please click here for further details.

  1. Active Schools clubs start up again this week. Please remember that your child may still have a school dinner on club days if they wish. They will just eat once the club has finished.
  2. P.E. will be on Monday and Friday. Please remember long hair should be tied back and earrings removed or covered
  3. Book bags should be checked each evening for homework and any letters which may have been issued. These letters should be removed from the book bag.
  4. Read and Munch will be on Friday.

As always, if you have any questions regarding homework, please do not hesitate to contact us. This can be done via the blog or your child’s book bag.

P1P/P1S – Free Flow Fun

Our Free Flow activities are chosen by the children. Every couple of weeks we have a discussion about the types of activities they would like to have, and I have to say, they chose well this week.

The children in our base just love maths and all things number so our “investigation” activity is maths based. They also love playing with the animals so our  “wonder” activity is all about researching information using the iPads and books. Our final activity allows the children to show off their “creative” side by using different painting resources. We are looking forward to seeing what the children come up with this week.

Here are a few photos of the children who chose these activities during today’s session.

Term 3 Targets

This term our targets will be taking a slightly different format. Each of the children will be issued an individual school target after discussion with their class teacher, which we will work on regularly together. We would also like the children to have a personal target for them to work on at home. Please discuss with your child an area they will be able to focus on which will allow them to become a little more independent. This could be zipping their jackets, dressing themselves, putting their shoes on, using a knife and fork correctly or any other area that you feel they could benefit from. Our plan is to issue a new school target each month of term 3; as long as the previous target has been achieved.

Our targets sheets will be issued at some point over the coming week. You will be able to see the school target we have set for your child. If possible, home targets should be decided on by Friday (17th). Once home targets for January have been decided, please complete the relevant box on the sheet so the class teacher is aware of what you will be working towards with your child. You will also notice that there is a comment box, please feel free to complete this, if you wish, once the target has been achieved.

Thanking you in advance for your support with this.
