Good afternoon! We hope you are having a wonderful October break and are looking forward to hearing all of your stories when we return to school for the start of term 2. Please remember Monday is an in-service day and school is closed. We return on Tuesday 20th.

Homework for the coming week will be set as assignments on Teams and will go live on Tuesday morning. Reminders can be found below.

Sounds: In class we have learned another 3 sounds: go and u. These will be added to our Jolly Phonics PowerPoint on Teams for you to practice at home. We ask that you continue to practice all of the sounds as much as possible.

SIGHT WORDS: We have learned another 2 sight words (for and on) and these have been added to our flashcards folder on Teams.

READING: Wordless reading books will be issued on Tuesday. The children should look at the pictures carefully and retell the story through what they see. Being able to use picture cues in this way is a very good reading skill for them to learn. This will also allow them to build on their comprehension skills. Please return the books to school on Friday as this will allow us to quarantine them ready for the following week.

A wee reminder that, if you haven’t already done so, please return any overdue Reading for Enjoyment books to school.

MATHS: Our task for this week will be set as an assignment on Teams.

  1.  Details of our lunch menu can be found here. If you are having a having a school lunch, please remember to discuss the options with someone at home so you are aware of what you are having before coming to school.
  2. Our outdoor sessions will be on Tuesday-Friday (inclusive).
  3. A wee reminder that Mrs Kane and Mrs Hughes will be in class on Wednesday as both Mrs McAvoy and I will be out of school for our NCCT day.
  4. Read & Munch will be on Friday. You may bring in a book from home to read in class. Please remember any snack you bring for our Read & Munch session should be a healthy one: fruit or vegetables.
  5. If you have yet to do so, please return the data forms to school as soon as possible. This will allow the office staff to ensure we have the most up-to-date information on file.

As always, any questions, just ask. Enjoy the remainder of our October break.

P1P/P1S – Maths Week Scotland Round-up

Math Stations Clip Art drawing free image

Well, your first ever Maths Week Scotland at Bishopton Primary is over. We hope you all enjoyed it. We had a very busy week learning new maths skills and having fun sharing our knowledge in lots of different ways.

Here are the links to a couple of the videos we enjoyed this week.

I Can Show Numbers In So Many Ways

Here is a wee look at some of the activities we have been working on this week.

P1P/P1S – Today We Were ……….

Group of Workers with Different Jobs clipart. Free download transparent .PNG | Creazilla

This afternoon we continued celebrating all things maths by focusing on this year’s theme: Maths at Work. We looked at how different maths skills were used in a variety of jobs. Please discuss this with your child and, if possible, chat to them about the different ways in which you may use maths at work.

So much fun was had when we became chefs, bakers, builders, engineers, scientists and shopkeepers. Some of us may have got a little messy!

P1P/P1S – Litter Picking Duty

There was much excitement yesterday when we had the opportunity to use the school litter pickers.  We were very impressed at just how well the children completed this task.  The area we were working on was cleared in less than 10 minutes! So much fun was had that the children didn’t actually realise the benefits of what they were doing. Looking after their school environment in this way is a wonderful experience for the children to be a part of. It allows them a sense of pride knowing that they have played a part in keeping our school tidy.

It also gave them the opportunity to see the types of litter being dropped within the school grounds. And …… as it’s Maths Week Scotland we may just be able to use the information to create a wee survey!

Missing Jumpers

Can you please double check your child’s school jumpers to ensure that they belong to them? We are missing a few school jumpers. I am informed that these jumpers are named.

If you discover a jumper that does not belong to your child, please hand it to your child’s teacher. Thank you!

We hope you have a lovely holiday weekend.

Stay safe and have fun! 🙂

P1P/P1S – Reading for Enjoyment Books

Children read book clipart. Free download transparent .PNG | Creazilla

A few of our Reading for Enjoyment books were not returned to school today. We totally understand that this can happen so please do not worry. As we are required to quarantine the books for 72 hours before using them again, can we ask that, if you are able to, you bring the book when collecting your child from school today. This will allow us to have the books ready for using next week.

Thanking you
