P1P/P1S – Today We Were ……….

Group of Workers with Different Jobs clipart. Free download transparent .PNG | Creazilla

This afternoon we continued celebrating all things maths by focusing on this year’s theme: Maths at Work. We looked at how different maths skills were used in a variety of jobs. Please discuss this with your child and, if possible, chat to them about the different ways in which you may use maths at work.

So much fun was had when we became chefs, bakers, builders, engineers, scientists and shopkeepers. Some of us may have got a little messy!

P1P/P1S – Litter Picking Duty

There was much excitement yesterday when we had the opportunity to use the school litter pickers.  We were very impressed at just how well the children completed this task.  The area we were working on was cleared in less than 10 minutes! So much fun was had that the children didn’t actually realise the benefits of what they were doing. Looking after their school environment in this way is a wonderful experience for the children to be a part of. It allows them a sense of pride knowing that they have played a part in keeping our school tidy.

It also gave them the opportunity to see the types of litter being dropped within the school grounds. And …… as it’s Maths Week Scotland we may just be able to use the information to create a wee survey!

Missing Jumpers

Can you please double check your child’s school jumpers to ensure that they belong to them? We are missing a few school jumpers. I am informed that these jumpers are named.

If you discover a jumper that does not belong to your child, please hand it to your child’s teacher. Thank you!

We hope you have a lovely holiday weekend.

Stay safe and have fun! 🙂

P1P/P1S – Reading for Enjoyment Books

Children read book clipart. Free download transparent .PNG | Creazilla

A few of our Reading for Enjoyment books were not returned to school today. We totally understand that this can happen so please do not worry. As we are required to quarantine the books for 72 hours before using them again, can we ask that, if you are able to, you bring the book when collecting your child from school today. This will allow us to have the books ready for using next week.

Thanking you

Good afternoon! I  hope you are all having a lovely weekend despite all of the rain we have had. Our homework and reminders for this week can be found below.

Sounds: A PowerPoint has been added to the Jolly Phonics folder which can be found in our Files tab on Teams.  All of the sounds learned to date have been added with a copy of the actions and links to the songs. Please continue to practice all of our sounds at home as much as possible.

SIGHT WORDS: To date we have learned the sight words the, of, and, a, to and in. You should be able to recognise these words on sight and use them in a sentence. For homework we would like you to practice these words. Practicing little and often is the best way for you to learn these words. Ideas of how to do this can be found in the Sight Words folder within the Files tab at the top of our Teams page. Further information on the importance of learning the sight words can also be found in this folder. As we learn a new word in class, we will add it to the flashcard folder.

READING: Our Reading for Enjoyment books will be sent home on Tuesday. If you have a book bag, you may bring it in on this day. The book should then be returned to school on Friday. We ask that you read this with someone at home and discuss the story using our Three Sharings method. Remember we have been using this method in class and Mrs McAvoy and I are very impressed at how confident you are becoming in sharing your thoughts.

  • What did you like about the story? Did you dislike anything about the story?
  • Do you have any connections with anything that happened in the story?
  • Are you puzzled/confused by anything that happened in the story?

SEAL:  Please access the Home Learning Wall A grid that can be found in the SEAL folder in Files on Teams. You should choose one activity to complete this week.

H&WB:  Please continue practicing our targets. You should choose 1 or 2 per week and focus on those before moving on to another one.
