Good afternoon

We hope you are enjoying your weekend.

CLASS PHOTOGRAPHS

Please be aware that a photographer from The Gazette will be here to take a class photograph on Tuesday 4th. If possible, please send your child to school wearing a white shirt and tie on this day.

HOMEWORK

Sounds – This week is revision for S A T P I N. Please revise all sounds, actions and songs. Begin to use the sounds to make connections with words. E.G. Ask your child what sound they can hear at the start of the word ‘tin.’ Only progress onto the end and middle sounds when they become confident with this.

The game below helps identify the sounds. Please just remember on only click on S A T P I N sounds.

Here is a another game that helps to identify the first sound in words.

P1M & P1E PE & Read and Munch

Remember we have PE on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Please tie back long hair.

After looking at our timetable, Miss Frew and myself have decided that the best day for Read & Munch will be on Thursdays ( not Tuesdays).  We are going to start it this week.

The children are invited to bring in a book from home every week to share with their friends. It would be good if you could provide your child with a small healthy snack to munch on.

Thanks

Miss Mackay

P1M Homework 27th August

Hi,

Three new sounds this week :    i   p   n.      Please practise songs, actions and identifying sounds on the cards. (If unsure of the songs, you can hear them on youtube if you type in Jolly Phonics songs).

They all have a new reading book for you to enjoy with them. Remember to use the card to ask the questions. You are also encouraged to tell them bits that you like/dislike.

Numeracy :   You now have a sheet in the homework bag with a selection of activities. Please pick one each week – from the dotted choice- and date the activity once completed.

The Personal Targets sheet is also in the bag. Tick and date each box at the bottom when you think your child has achieved each target. He/She should be able to tell you the following

  • water bottles go into the blue tray when they arrive in the morning.
  • jackets are put on, then they get their snack out of their school bag before lining up.

Please continue to practise putting on jackets.  Challenge them by  pulling an arm inside out, so they have to correct it before putting on.

Once you have dated the target at the bottom, we will let the children colour each part of the cirlce in class when we observe them attaining the targets on a regular basis.

Do not hesitate to ask if you are unsure of anything. Happy to help!

European Day of Languages

Bonjour                Guten Tag            Hola               Halla                Hej

Our school will be celebrating European Day of Languages on Wednesday 26th September.  Our theme this year is celebrating how useful it is to know a second (or third) language.  We would like to invite any parents/grandparents who speak another language to come and speak to a group (not the whole school) of children to let them see how knowing more than one language has been useful to you.  If your first language is not English, it would be great if you could teach us a few words in that language eg. hello, numbers to 10 or how are you. If you are able to help, please leave a message at the school office for Mrs Ferguson P3F.

Merci                   Danke                   Gracias            Tak                    Tack

Primary 1 Nursery Rhyme of the Week

We will be learning a Nursery Rhyme each week in Primary 1.  Singing rhymes with your child helps develop their awareness of sounds and rhyme which in turns helps with their reading.  This week’s rhyme is an easy one to start with-Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.  Please spend some time singing this with your child and listen out for the sounds we have already learned in class!

Have fun!

P1 Targets Card

Please look out for your child’s social targets card in their book bag over the next few days.

Please choose 1 target at a time to work on with your child until they become fully confident in the skill.

When you think that they have grasped a target, please highlight or underline it at the bottom and we will keep a close eye on their progress in class. We will ask your child to colour in a target on the wheel when we see that they do this on a regular basis in class.

Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Useful information

Good evening,

We have had a great start to Primary 1 and have enjoyed meeting all the children and getting to know them. We hope they have enjoyed their first week too!

Our PE days will be a Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child has their PE kit. Hair must be tied up and any earrings will have to be covered with tape or removed. It is also very helpful if your child comes to school on these days wearing a polo shirt as it is easier for them to get changed for P.E.

Book bags will be sent home this week with the sounds we learned last week along with a story book for you to enjoy reading with your child. There is also a lovely book mark which has some helpful discussion questions which you can do with your child when reading with them.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask one of us!

Miss Frew and Miss Mackay

Welcome to P1

Welcome to Primary 1 everyone!  It was lovely to meet all of the children again and they all looked so smart in their uniforms!  There are a few things we would like to let you know to help us all over the next couple of weeks:

Please name all of your child’s belonging

1 snack and 1 drink for playtime – this should be put in your child’s school bag and not their packed lunch box.  We are a nut free school and children should not share snacks.

Money for the milk bar should be brought in a purse/wallet

Please chat to your child the night before about the lunch menu and explain the choices.

Water can be drunk during the day in class.  Please do not put juice in these water bottles as any spillages can make things very sticky.  Juice can be drunk at playtime and lunchtime.

If you have not already done so, please send in gym shoes, gym kit (shorts and polo shirt) and bookbag by Monday 20th August if possible.

Notification of homework will be on the Primary 1 blog.

Please do not hesitate if you have any questions.
