Primary 1 First Day

Image result for welcome

Good afternoon,

Well done to all of our Primary 1’s – what a busy day we had and we hope you enjoyed your first day!

Here are a few reminders:

  • Please ensure all personal belongings are clearly labelled.
  • No book bags required in school at the moment. Please keep these at home until further notice.
  • In class the children should bring only water to drink (flavoured water is ok). Juice can be drunk at break and lunch. As our water coolers are now being used, your child will only require to bring one water bottle. Please be aware that any unnamed water bottles will have to be disposed of, if left in class, due to council guidelines.
  • We are a nut free school therefore we would  ask that you please be mindful of the snacks the children are bringing to school.
  • One snack is only required and we would appreciate if this could be kept in your child’s school bag rather than their lunch box.
  • Please remind your child in the morning if they are having a packed lunch or will require a school lunch. School lunches, at the moment, are a choice of a ham, cheese or tuna sandwich. We will update you if this changes. Please help your child to choose their option.
  • As we will be doing more outdoor learning, please dress your child appropriately for this. If it is a hot day, please apply sun cream to your child before coming to school. If your child is bringing sun cream with them, please ensure they can apply this independently.

Please remember to keep checking our blog as we will regularly be updating you with our class news. If you have any messages for your child’s teacher, please direct these to Bishopton Inquiries as letters can’t be sent from home.

Doors will open for collection from 3:00pm-3:15pm.

We are looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow. Doors will be open from 8:45am. Please encourage your child to enter the classroom independently so they can begin their hand washing routine. Remember, only one adult in the playground.

Many thanks,

P1 Teachers

Bishopton Pedal 2020

Today should have been the start of the Big Pedal walking/cycling/scooting national competition that we all enjoy so much each year.

This year we’re turning it into the Bishopton Pedal.

As part of your daily exercise, we would like you to try to cycle, scoot or walk every day for the next 2 weeks.  Please make sure that bikes and scooters are safe for you to use and that you wear helmets on your bike just as you would if you were at school. If you do not have access to a safe place to cycle, scoot or walk please just carry on with all the other daily fitness ideas provided by your teachers.

Remember all your family are welcome to join in too.

Be safe and have fun.

P1M & P1W – Digital Learning

Good evening,

We hope you are enjoying your weekend despite the craziness that is going on around us. Our time in the classroom may be over, for now, however that doesn’t mean our learning will stop. Tomorrow brings a new way of learning ….. learning at home! To help with this we will be posting a copy of our weekly timetable on our Class Team pages tomorrow. This way you will be able to see what is coming up over the course of the week.

Each morning Miss Wilson and I will set daily assignments for you to complete. It is entirely up to you when these are completed throughout the day and in what order. Some of the tasks will be active whereas others will be written. The completed written tasks can be returned to us by attaching them to the original assignment. Please click here for details on how to complete this. Also, if you were in school last week, a blue jotter was sent home. Tasks may also be completed in this and checked by an adult at home rather than being submitted.

Remember, we will be available to help, if needed, so please use the chat facility on our Team page. You may also email us if you would prefer. We will be online from 9.00am until 3:15pm.

Every day, we would like all of you to ‘check-in’ with us by posting a reply to the ‘register’ which will be posted on our Class Team page each morning. We will say ‘Good Morning P1M/W’ and you can let us know you have read it at some point throughout the day by replying with a ‘hi’ or hello’.

Please remember, there will be teething problems until we settle into this new way of learning. However, if we all work together, we are confident it will all fall into place very soon. We are hoping that someone at home can send us photos, or videos, of you and your work, so we can see what you are getting up to.

Above all, please don’t worry about this next step in your child’s learning. We are here to help in any way that we can.

Please continue to practice our sounds and the sight words on your child’s word wall – all word walls will be saved to the class materials folder in the files section of your child’s class team. Tasks will be set each week relating to our new sounds/words however practicing all sounds and words would also be beneficial.

Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Good morning,

Just to let you know that all of the assignments for today’s self-isolating children have been posted on the class teams. You should log onto Glow, use the Microsoft Teams tab and then your specific class tab. All assignments should then be available to you. Glow & Microsoft Teams

Good morning,

Can we ask, if you haven’t already done so, to help your child log on to their Glow account.  Log in details were issued to all children last week – please let us know if you need these to be reissued. Once you can access  Glow, please click on the Microsoft Teams app on the Bishopton apps list and post a brief message on your child’s class Team.  This will allow us to see who can get access.

If you have any problems with this, please speak to us as soon as possible.

Many thanks,

Miss Murray & Miss Wilson

Big Pedal 2020

Good news !  The Big Pedal cycling, scooting and walking challenge is back.  From Wednesday 22nd April to Tuesday 5th May we would like you to bring your bike or scooter to school every day. You will get the chance to bike or scoot with your classmates and your teacher. If you can’t bring a bike or scooter, you can walk and that will count too.  For more information have a look at the Big Pedal website.

This is a national competition to see how many journeys we can make biking, scooting or walking. Please ask an adult to check that your bike or scooter is in good working order. You may bring a lock to use but you must be responsible for the key.

Rules – all cyclists MUST wear a helmet

– no cycling or scooting in the playground ( or the ashy path) unless you are with your teacher (on the way in/out, playtime and lunchtime)

We have taken part in this challenge for the last few years and it is always good fun.  We are usually in the top 10. Let’s try for top 3 this year!

Happy cycling/scooting/walking

Mrs Ferguson

P1M & P1W Week Beginning 16/03

Good afternoon,

We hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Homework for this week:

Reading – your child has been issued with a new reading book. Please practice this with your child and encourage them to sound out words (if applicable) and use the picture clues to help explain what is happening in the story.

Library Books – Please continue to enjoy the book  with your child and use the ‘three sharings’ to discuss the book.  All library books should be returned to school by next Wednesday 18th to allow us to return them.

Sounds – no new sound cards have been added since this week was a revision week. Please continue to practice previously issued sounds.

Word walls – word walls have been checked and put back into book bags. Please focus on trying to read the highlighted words in pink only. Children need to learn to read these words by sight (rather than sounding out) and understand the meaning by putting into an appropriate context in an oral sentence. We will tick the word when your child can read the word immediately and highlight these words in green when your child shows confidence in using the words correctly in an oral sentence to show meaning.

Maths – Please choose one activity to do with your child and date beside this when complete.

Health & Wellbeing – please practice the home target set for March.  More information on this task can be found here.

Reading Passports – we are enjoying reading all the entries to your reading passports. Please continue to complete for any books read at home.

Reminders:

  • P.E. will be on Monday & Tuesday of this week. Earrings must be taped and long hair tied back.
  • Please ensure children bring a water bottle to school every day – we do not keep spare cups in class.
  • Please check that your child can log in to their Glow account. from home – more details here.
  • We are once again looking for spare loose parts to help with our learning – some ideas are in the following link – loose parts. As previously mentioned loose parts containing pulses, egg cartons and milk crates should not be sent in due to allergies within primary one. Please do not buy any of these items, it is purely if you have them going spare or are able to collect them from friends or family.
  • We also welcome junk for our creative area – small boxes, tubs, lids, plastic containers, old wallpaper/ material off-cuts, and anything else you think we could use to make things.

As always, please let us know if you have any questions.

P1 – Glow and Microsoft Teams

Good afternoon,

P1 pupils have been issued with an email address and password for Glow. Please use this to log in to Glow (This is Scottish Schools National Intranet). The children will be shown how to access Microsoft Teams, which is the app shown first on the Bishopton Apps List, over the next few days.

Please log in using your child’s sign in to check it is working properly. If you have any problems, please let your child’s class teacher know as soon as possible.

Many thanks,
