P1M/W Week Beginning 13/01

Good morning,

We hope you all had a relaxing weekend.

Homework for this week:

Reading – children have been issued with new reading books.  Please practice these with your child and encourage your child to sound out words (if applicable) and use the picture cues to help explain what is happening in the story.

Sounds – a new sound card for  ‘oo’ is in book bags to practice.  Please also continue to practice previously issued sounds.

Word walls – Please focus on learning to read the highlighted words in pink only.  Children need to learn to read these sight words and understand the meaning by putting the word ‘into an appropriate context in an oral sentence.  We will tick the word when your child can read the word immediately and highlight these words in green when your child shows confidence in using the words correctly in an oral sentence to show meaning.

Maths – children have been issued with a shape worksheet to help revise 2d shape recognition.

Reminders:

  • P.E. will be on Monday and Tuesday of this week. Earrings must be taped and long hair tied back.
  • Please ensure children bring a water bottle to school each day.
  • Read & munch will be on Friday of this week – children can bring in a healthy snack and book from home if they wish.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Term 3 Targets

This term our targets will be taking a slightly different format. Each of the children will be issued an individual school target after discussion with their class teacher, which we will work on regularly together. We would also like the children to have a personal target for them to work on at home. Please discuss with your child an area they will be able to focus on which will allow them to become a little more independent. This could be zipping their jackets, dressing themselves, putting their shoes on, using a knife and fork correctly or any other area that you feel they could benefit from. Our plan is to issue a new school target each month of term 3; as long as the previous target has been achieved.

Our targets sheets will be issued at some point over the coming week. You will be able to see the school target we have set for your child. If possible, home targets should be decided on by Friday (17th). Once home targets for January have been decided, please complete the relevant box on the sheet so the class teacher is aware of what you will be working towards with your child. You will also notice that there is a comment box, please feel free to complete this, if you wish, once the target has been achieved.

Thanking you in advance for your support with this.

Scottish Poems

The children will be learning a Scottish poem to recite in front of the class the week beginning 27th January. A winner will be chosen from each class. These children will then represent their class at a special Scottish school assembly on 6th February.

Please choose ONE poem from the sheet that you will find in the bookbags tomorrow. We would be very grateful if you could work with your child to help them learn their poem and practice performing it in preparation for their performance.

Please click on the links below to listen to each poem.

P1M / P1W – Thank You & Merry Christmas!

Good afternoon,

What a busy week we have had – the children should all be very proud of themselves for putting on such a fantastic nativity performance, we hope you all enjoyed it as much as we did.  Everyone had a great time at the Christmas party today and Santa even managed to drop by for a chat with all the children, who have worked so hard this term.

We can’t believe we have reached the holidays and we would both just like to thank everyone for the lovely cards, gifts and well wishes. We really appreciate it.

We hope that everyone has a relaxing and fun filled festive period. We look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

Enjoy!

  • Wednesday – Our nativity starts at 9:30 sharp. Tickets have been issued and we look forward to seeing many of you there.
  • Friday – As stated on the previous blog, we will have our P1 party on Friday morning. Children are welcome to come dressed in their party clothes. Friday is also an early release – closing at 2:30pm for the holidays.
  • Gym Kit: We will send home gym bags and sandshoes this week for you to check and wash.
  • Christmas Crafts: If you wish to purchase your child’s Christmas decoration please send in £1.50 before Friday of this week to allow all of the funds to be totalled.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very merry Christmas and to thank you all for your help and support this year. We are so proud of how well the children have settled into Primary 1 and have loved seeing their progress so far.

Many thanks,

Miss Wilson & Miss Murray.

Christmas Jumper Day

A wee reminder that tomorrow (Friday) is Christmas Jumper Day. The children may come to school in their Christmas jumper/top. Please note this is a non-uniform event.  A donation of £1.00 is suggested. All monies raised will go to the Save the Children organisation. If the children are not taking part, they should come to school in school uniform as normal.
