P1M / P1W – Update

Good Afternoon,

We have had a fantastic first full week of primary one. Some of the things we have being learning are: –

  • Learning sounds – s, a, t.
  • Learning all about numbers 0 & 1.
  • Our first PATHS lesson – meeting our friends Twiggle, Duke, Henrietta and Daphne.
  • Spatial awareness and listening games at gym.
  • Our first assembly.
  • Drawing and telling stories of what we were doing in the summer holidays.
  • An introduction to sorting into various categories.
  • Exploring our afternoon free flow zones in three different classrooms.
  • Cosmic yoga – ‘squish the fish’.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Parents Information Evening on Tuesday, it was lovely to meet you and we hope you found it useful.  We thought it would be helpful to remind you of some of the key things: –

  • PE days are a Monday & Tuesday – pupils need to wear shorts, t-shirt and indoor shoes.  Earrings need to be removed or taped over. PE kits will be kept in class & sent home at the end of every term.
  • Our read & munch day is Tuesday – pupils can bring in a healthy snack such as fruit or veg and bring in a book from home to enjoy.
  • If children are going home for lunch please let us know either in the morning or a quick note in the bookbag.   Pupils should be collected at the gate to the ashy path at 12:15pm and returned to school in plenty of time for starting the afternoon session at 1:15pm.
  • A milk bar is open in the school dinner hall for pupils to purchase drinks / snacks at playtime.
  • The doors to the classroom are alarmed from 9am onwards -if you arrive at the school after this time please go straight to the office.
  • If there are any changes to pick up arrangements / aftercare then please let us know.

Loose Parts

We are looking for loose parts to help us with our learning.  We are hoping to gather up lots of different things –  some ideas are in the link below. Please do not buy any of these items, it is purely if you have them going spare or are able to collect them from friends or family. Some can be gathered from nature walks in the Autumn.

We are also looking for junk for our creative area. We are looking for smaller boxes, tubes, lids, plastic containers, old wallpaper/material off-cuts, and anything else you think we could use to make things.

Bookbags have been filled with homework ready to send home on Monday.  We will issue a separate blog post with further information on this.

As always, if there are any questions then please let us know.

Have a lovely weekend.

P1M & P1W Welcome to Primary One

Good afternoon & welcome to P1M and P1W.  We have had a great few days getting to know each other.  The children have settled in well and have been busy learning new routines and having lots of fun exploring their new environment.

Just a few reminders:

  • Our gym days are a Monday and a Tuesday.
  • Please ensure children have a gym kit (shorts, polo t-shirt and gym shoes) in a separate bag which we keep in school. Long hair should be tied back and earrings taken out or covered up with tape.
  • Snacks should be put into your child’s school bag and not their lunch box.  We are a nut free school and children should not share snacks.
  • Please chat to your child the night before about the lunch menu and explain the choices.
  • Please ensure all personal belongings are clearly labelled. We will put a lost property trolley outside the classroom door on a Friday (weather permitting).  If items are not collected on a Friday we shall hand these up to the lost property at the office.
  • Only water should be in water bottles to drink in class.  Juice can be kept for playtime or lunchtime.
  • Book bags should be brought into school each day.  (Please note we have kept book bags in school until next week, when they will be sent home every day (except a Friday).  Please check book bags every day for letters.  Similarly, please put any letters for school into book bags and we will check these as early as practical each day.

We look forward to seeing you at the information evening next Tuesday at 6:30pm.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to speak to us.

I hope you all have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing the children back on Monday.

PIP & PIN Week Beginning 04/03

Hi all,

On Friday of this week we are celebrating World Book Day.  Please note that it is a non-uniform day.  It would be super if your child could bring in a book from home (one they know well and are able to talk about).

Sponsored reading challenge – a wee reminder to try and complete as many challenges as possible. Money should be brought in on Friday 8th. We look forward to discussing the challenges your child has completed.

Homework for this week is as follows:

Please continue to revise all sounds, in particular the digraphs (two letters making one sound).

Please continue to work on the highlighted words and remember to practise putting these orally into a sentence.

Please ensure the reading books are in the book bag everyday.  When practising at home, please encourage your child to place their finger under each word as he/she reads.

The children have been learning how to tell o’clock times on analogue and digital clocks – it would be helpful if your could point out these times during home routines.  Please continue with activities on the worksheet.

As usual please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any queries about the above.
