Before the holidays we looked at a_e with magic ‘e’. We will continue with a_e and also look at ‘ay<\/span>‘<\/strong> which makes the same sound! We will be revising our tricky words this term.<\/p>\n

a_e<\/strong><\/span> and ay<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>have the same sound but there is a difference:<\/p>\n

With magic ‘e’ you can hear the long ‘a’ sound but at the end of the word you hear the second last letter because the ‘e’ is silent e.g. cak<\/strong><\/span>e, gam<\/strong><\/span>e, lak<\/strong><\/span>e<\/p>\n

However, with ‘ay<\/span><\/strong>‘ you do hear the long ‘a’ sound at the end e.g. day<\/span><\/strong>, play<\/span><\/strong>, tray<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Now you know lots of way to spell with the long ‘a’ sound (remember your learned ‘ai<\/span><\/strong>‘ in Primary 1 too)<\/p>\n
