Curriculum for Excellence

During your child’s time in the ELCC Class and Primary 1,  they will be working within the Early Level of Curriculum for Excellence for children 3-18.  The curriculum is made up of eight main areas for learning:
  • Health & Wellbeing
  • English & Literacy
  • Mathematics & Numeracy
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • Expressive Arts
  • Technologies
  • Religious & Moral Education.

Through careful planning using Curriculum for Excellence, we  will support all children to become:

  • Effective Contributors.

Curriculum Areas

Health & Wellbeing

Children will learn how to build relationships, develop independence & perseverance skills, follow rules, take turns, make choices, healthy lifestyles and become confident learners.

English & Literacy

This area focuses on helping children to develop their listening, talking and early reading and early writing skills through stories, songs and rhymes.

Mathematics & Numeracy

Children will learn about early maths and numeracy through play e.g. shape, pattern, measurement, time, money and numbers.
Sciences
Children will learn about their bodies, sense, growth, planting, recycling, seasons and caring for animals in our garden.
Social Studies
Children will learn about themselves, each other and the world around them by investigating the local environment, methods of transport and people who help us.
Expressive Arts
Skills are developed through role play, imaginative play, music, art, craft & design, movement, dancing and drama activities.
Technologies
Develop computer skills including SMART board, cameras, make and solve problems using construction materials.
Religious & Moral Education
Develop their understanding of what is fair or unfair, awareness of how to share and co-operate with others and different cultures and beliefs.
