Health and Wellbeing

Learning in health and wellbeing ensures that children and young people develop the knowledge and understanding, skills, capabilities and attributes which they need for mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing now and in the future.

Health Education incorporates:

Mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing, which cover the following areas.

  • Planning for choices and changes
  • Physical education, physical activity and sport
  • Food and Health
  • Substance Misuse
  • Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood.

Our aim is that all of our pupils develop an understanding of looking after themselves and making the right choices to lead a healthy, happy and active life as adults. To achieve this a wide range of topic are covered from P1-P7.

In PE, the school offers a programme of physical activities which develop a positive attitude to an active lifestyle and encourage understanding of the role of exercise in good health. Gymnastics, dance, sports and games are considered to be the core of our programme. At Mossvale Primary all pupils receive two hours of PE each week in accordance with National and local authority guidelines. All pupils take part in our annual sports day which takes place in the summer term and to which all parents and friends are warmly invited.
