The council supports an agreed dress code because of the benefits it brings, including improvements in safety, security, discipline, ethos, community spirit and a decrease in bullying and expense for parents.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Some types of clothing will not be allowed in school for reasons of safety, decency or indiscipline. Types of clothing which will not be allowed include:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>clothes which are a health or safety risk;<\/li>\n<li>clothes which may damage the school building;<\/li>\n<li>clothes which may provoke other pupils;<\/li>\n<li>clothes which are offensive or indecent; and<\/li>\n<li>clothes which encourage the use of alcohol or tobacco or other inappropriate substances<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Pupils will not be deprived of education, any benefit or access to examinations because of not wearing school uniform.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In the interests of health and safety, of both individual and others present, all jewellery, including body jewellery, must be removed before taking part in physical education lessons or physical activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Grants for footwear and clothing for children are available to parents receiving:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify\">\n<li>income support;<\/li>\n<li>job seekers allowance (income based);<\/li>\n<li>employment and support allowance (income based);<\/li>\n<li>incapacity or severe disablement allowance;<\/li>\n<li>state pension credit, child tax credit, universal credit<\/li>\n<li>support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Information and application forms for free school meals are available from schools, registration offices and customer service centres or download a form from the council&#8217;s website: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.renfrewshire.gov.uk\/article\/14347\/Free-school-meals-holiday-meal-payments-and-clothing-grants\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">www.renfrewshire.gov.uk<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Please help the school and the education authority by making sure that pupils do not bring valuable or expensive items of clothing to school. The council has no insurance to cover the loss of valuable items.<br \/>\nSchool uniform is very important in Mary Russell. It gives pupils a sense of identity and belonging.
