{"id":39,"date":"2022-02-23T08:26:45","date_gmt":"2022-02-23T08:26:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/re\/languagematters\/?p=39"},"modified":"2022-02-23T08:26:45","modified_gmt":"2022-02-23T08:26:45","slug":"car-journeys-with-crystal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/re\/languagematters\/2022\/02\/23\/car-journeys-with-crystal\/","title":{"rendered":"Car Journeys with Crystal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have to admit I have been seeking out more and more opportunities to get out in the car lately.\u00a0 Journeys to work, a drive to the supermarket, a nostalgia trip to&#8230; well, anywhere.\u00a0 Not that I&#8217;m much of a driver, nor that I enjoy it.\u00a0 I generally don&#8217;t.\u00a0 But now that I&#8217;ve downloaded an audiobook copy &#8211; read by the author himself &#8211; of David Crystal&#8217;s <em>Making Sense: The Glamorous Story of English Grammar<\/em>, there&#8217;s not an A, B, or C road you won&#8217;t find me on with the great Prof&#8217;s dulcet tones as a travelling companion!\u00a0 I think I&#8217;m on my fourth listen and entering overdraft to pay for the fuel.\u00a0 As with most of Crystal&#8217;s work, as the title suggests, it just makes sense.
