Primary 2/3

P2/3 Term 1

Primary 2/3 have had a great start to the year and settled in well to their new class.

Lyall’s Birthday

Topic

P2/3 have been learning all about “The Woodlands” this term. Together we identified various woodland animals and learned about the different types of habitats in which they live in. We looked in-depth at mini-beasts and even had the opportunity to go on our very own mini-beast hunt during our trip to Culzean Castle!

The class thoroughly impressed Miss Connell and Mr Cundy during our visit to Culzean Castle when they were able to share what they had been learning with the Park Rangers. They were able to identify different types of leaves and trees by comparing their colour, size and texture.

Literacy

This term the class thoroughly enjoyed reading “The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark”. We were able to re-tell the story in our own words using the illustrator’s drawings to help us and used ‘Plop the Barn Owl’ as a stimulus for our imaginative writing.

We have engaged with the Active Literacy programme to develop our phonics and spelling knowledge and will continue this throughout Term 2.  This term we have had fun using pasta shapes, playdough and shaving foam to help us practice and learn our spelling words.

Math’s Week Scotland

P2/3 took part in a variety of different Math related activities, including the loop card challenge, playground hunt and the escape room. Miss. Connell would like to say an extra special well done to the class for their efforts in the loop card challenge – we managed to beat our personal best time and complete the challenge in under 1 minute!! Fantastic effort P2/3!

Next Term…

In Term 2, we will be exploring different types of ‘Energy’ in our Science topic.

We will also begin rehearsals for the P1-3 Christmas Nativity which will take place on Wednesday 11th December at 1.30pm. We would love for parents and family members to come along to watch and celebrate the festive season with us.
