Learning Walk Heroes have afternoon tea with the Head Teacher

Learning Walk Heroes

At Langbank we take great pride in the high levels of academic attainment and wider achievements of our children. On a regular basis the Head Teacher goes on a “Learning Walk” designed to see how well the children are learning and progressing.

As part of these walks, the Head Teacher identifies children who have excelled in their work or have shown amazing progress. Over the course of a term, 10 children are selected to be “Learning Walk Heroes”.

Their prize is to have an afternoon tea with the Head Teacher.

At Langbank we set very high expectations but we also ensure that our children are rewarded for their achievements.

Celebrating Wider Achievements

Children can also earn praise for their wider achievements. Children are encouraged to take part in challenging activities outside school. When a child has a significant achievement such as climbing a Munro, going up a level in swimming, winning a certificate in a competition, they are encouraged to fill out an Achievement Slip.

Achievement slips are posted in the Golden Achievement Box in the hall. These are then read out at assembly. Every achievement earns up to 3 house points. The achievement is then recorded on a yellow, laminated brick, which is added to the Wall of Achievement. A running record is kept of all such achievements.

Additional Rewards

In addition to the House system, class teachers have additional incentives to encourage their pupils, such as group points. In addition children are formally rewarded for their efforts in the following ways:

Star Award Certificates are given out at assembly each week.  Through these awards, class teachers recognise children who have tried very hard at their work or have demonstrated excellent effort, attitude or behavior.

Headteacher  Stickers are awarded to pupils for significant achievements and progress as noted through evaluations of learning and teaching, pupil discussions, jotter monitoring and professional dialogues.

End of year awards are prestigious acknowledgements of exceptional attainment and are presented at the summer service. They recognise those children who continuously exceed the Langbank Standard. Children can be rewarded both academic / sporting achievements and also for personal endeavor.
