Our settling process

Thank you for choosing Kirklandneuk Early Learning and Childcare Centre, below you will find some information which I hope will be helpful as your child settles.

SETTLING YOUR CHILD

It is important that every child is given as much time as they need to settle into this new environment, regardless of their previous experience. For most children a week will be sufficient but it may take longer for some, it all depends on the child, and staff aim to meet each child’s needs.

On the first day of settling, your child will be given a timeslot and greeted by their keyworker. We will aim for your child to stay within the nursery for approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour (depending on the individual child). Parent’s can remain in the building or close by if required, dependant on how your child settles on this session, hours for forthcoming sessions will be agreed with parent and keyworker, this may happen on a day-by-day basis.

DROPPING OFF AND COLLECTION FROM NURSERY

At drop off parent must bring their child into the nursery environment. It is important that the parent/carer makes contact with a staff member to ensure their child is marked on the register, this also allows the opportunity for you to pass on any important information. If there is ANY CHANGE in your child’s collection arrangements, please notify the establishment immediately, either in person on arrival or by telephone. (e.g. If something unexpected occurs and you ask someone else to collect). In the interest of safety, we will not release your child other than to adults named within the enrolment form.

CLOTHING.

Play is messy! Please dress your child in clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Children have access to outdoor play every day. Children have access to outdoor play every day. Please ensure that your child has an appropriate jacket and shoes and a spare change of clothes, including underwear and socks. It would also be helpful if you could name anything any garments your child may remove during the course of the day i.e. cardigans and hoodies.

LUNCHES

All children are entitled to a two-course free meal provided by the local authority. If your child has specific dietary requirements or allergies, please ensure this is shared during the enrolment process to allow the local authority to provide alternative meals. If you prefer to provide your child with a packed lunch, we ask that this is balanced i.e., mix of carbohydrates, fruit, vegetables, dairy etc, and does not contain too many treats.

TOILETING.

If your child requires support with toileting, this can be discussed in advance of their start date. If your child is still training, then staff will provide support when this is required. Parents are asked to supply all nappies, wipes and spare clothes and complete medical forms if barrier creams are required.

DUMMIES.

We actively encourage children not to bring dummies into nursery, if your child requires to use a dummy as a comforter, we would appreciate that parents/carers encourage this to be left with them prior to the nursery session or placed in their nursery bag.

DONATION.

Each week a £2.50 donation is collected via ParentPay, this is a donation and in no way required. These donations do however support the nursery in organising special events and outings across the year i.e., Easter, Christmas, graduation and also allow for baking experiences to happen regularly. We encourage parents to sign up to ParentPay as soon as possible as the nursery is cashless and this also allows you to purchase things such as photographs and pay towards other fundraising events throughout the year. If you need any assistance with signing up to ParentPay please contact the nursery.

SEESAW

Within Kirklandneuk early Learning and Childcare centre we use Seesaw to share learning and other updates with parents/carers. This is a user-friendly app which can be downloaded on your phone on personal devise. This app is a secure communication portal between the nursery and your family.

STAFFING

All children are allocated a key worker who are responsible for ensuring your child’s learning and development are recorded, however all staff actively support and form a close bond with every child. In the absence of the keyworker, your child will continue to be supported and their needs met.

MEDICATION

Staff can administer medicine to your if this has been prescribed by a doctor and has a dispenser label with your child’s name and recent day. However, if your child requires medication for pain relief or a high temperature, we ask that your child remains at home until they feel well enough to attend without medication.
