Science – Day and Night

We have started a new topic in Science – Space.

Today we learned that the earth spins around and experiences day and night. It is daytime when a point on the Earth is facing the sun and night-time when it is facing away from the sun.

As it was a really sunny day we decided to go outside to explore how the sun creates shadows. We used chalk to draw around each others shadows. It was tricky to stay still while our partners were drawing!

We also drew around the shadows of some of the stationary objects in the playground, they didn’t move as we were drawing. However we learned that because the Earth is spinning, the position of the sun in the sky changes and the shadows would eventually move.

Symmetry

This term we have been exploring symmetry in a variety of different ways.

We have learned that a Line of symmetry is the imaginary line where you could fold an image and have both halves match exactly, like a mirror image.

We created symmetrical patterns using the Numicon boards.

We explored symmetry through ICT

We worked together to complete each others patterns.

Butterflies are always great when learning about symmetry.
