Charlie has a tin of paint.

The tin is half full and weighs 5.8 kg. Charlie paints a wall in his house.

The tin is now a quarter full and weighs 3.1 kg.

How much does the empty tin weigh?

A spinner has 5 equal sections. The sections are labelled A to E.

Having read chapter 7 & 8, I now want you to read chapter 9 and answer the following questions. You will be using INFERENCE as your reading strategy.

  1. Why is it so hard to dig?

  4. Why does Stanley nearly faint?
  5. Why do you think Elya just told Myra to marry Igor?

  8. Why did Stanley enjoy the shower so much?

 

Extension Task –

Finish writing Stanley’s letter. Think about the character, emotions, thoughts and how the setting/environment is impacting him.

L.I – revise strategies for multiplication and division.

Lesson Starter –

In your jotters, write a descriptive paragraph about one of the pictures below. Use the ideas below to help you be descriptive. When you send the work to me, I will try and guess which lizard picture you are describing.

Task 2 – Read Holes Ch 7-8. When reading chapter 8 highlight on the text, evidence about the yellow spotted lizard. Collate your evidence about yellow spotted lizards on the page below.

Sumdog Challenge

Today marks the beginning of the Renfrewshire Sumdog Maths Challenge. Each class has been entered into the competition. However to make this extra competitive, we are making this a class competition between ALL classes at Glencoats. The contest will run from 15th – 21st May. The class with the most participants answering the most questions correctly wins! Good Luck 👍

Task 1 – Complete the missing syllables in these three-syllable words. Write the whole word too.

 

Reading

  1. Literacy Starter activity on Seesaw

2. If you haven’t already done so ‘skim’ and ‘scan’ through Chapters 4-6 of ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar taking notes on the setting.

3. You are going to write a descriptive paragraph about Camp Green Lake. Take this starter sentence.

“Camp Green Lake is a dry, flat wasteland”

Expand on this to write a full descriptive paragraph about the setting. 

Rowling – Must have a variety of sentence openers, prepositional phrases and expanded noun phrases which have been selected carefully for effect.

Dahl Use a variety of preposition in writing and also use ambitious vocabulary to make writing more interesting

Walliams – Write 3-4 sentences. Try to include an adjective (descriptive word) in each sentence.

4. Read over your work and check for missing punctuation. Try to up-level your descriptive paragraph.

Extension Task – Drama (Hot Seating)

You are going to take on the role of Stanley. Prepare questions for an adult to ask you based around;

  • What Stanley felt when he first saw Camp Green Lake?
  • How did it compare to his childhood idea of Camp Fun and Games?

Once you have prepared the questions and answers for Stanley, why not have a go recording a live interview. You are now in the hot seat in the role of Stanley answering questions for 1 minute. Try to impersonate how you imagine the character to be.
